The Elphaba Curse

So, last night it happened again. Elphaba fell through the trap door and hurt herself. That's right folks, here's how it happened. Shoshana was going down the trap door at the end of No Good Deed, her dress got caught in the door and she tripped and fell through it! The show was stopped only for about 15 minutes, and then she went right back on, like a trooper!! But, isn't that interesting? It's a curse. You play Elphaba, you fall through the trap doors.

Eden didn't fall through a trap door
Neither has Stephanie, Christy, Jenna, Saycon or Ana

Stephanie got injured during a rehearsal of Defying Gravity the day before she was supposed to begin previews in Toronto.

Wow, you folks are harsh. And, she exits through a trap door thank you very much. My boyfriend works backstage in the show.

Also, I'm just talking about the women who have "played" Elphaba. Not the understudies or the Stand-by's, just those who have their name on the Marquee (on Broadway.) I just thought it was an odd coincidence.

No, actually, she doesn't. She does ENTER on a trap door, but at the end of No Good Deed she simply runs offstage and the witch hunters come in. I have a friend who is in the show. What does that have to do with anything?

Maybe your boyfriend meant the melting scene? That's when she exits through a trap.

Elphaba doesn't exit through a trap door after No Good Deed. She walks off.

She enters through a trap door, she runs offstage at the end of No Good Deed.

Do you mean the melting scene something occured? cause that's the only time she leaves the stage via a trap door.

umm... no, but she doesn't exit through a trap door. at the BEGINNING of NGD she comes up through a trap door while holding the note for "FIYEROOOOOOO" while she is coming up, the end of that song she runs off stage... no trap door exits at all during that song

It may be possible it was a different song. I'm pretty sure she does exit through a trap door though. But, anyway, my point is just that it was the second act.

Anyway, yeah, give 'em all time...Something is bound to happen to the girls playing Elphaba. It doesn't look like a physically demanding part, but there's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes...

She doesn't exit through a trap. I bet he was talking about the melting scene, which was where Idina was injured going through the trap.

Maybe they could rework it so she does go back into the stage door afterwards, so she could fall and let someone with talent go on in her part.

Does the Elphaba curse work against other castmembers, like if they're in the same vicinity?

Kristin getting dragged off-stage by the rope in San Fran, David breaking his finger on the trap door his first week in the show...
