I think the fact that it's opening right as Tony season kicks into high gear will give it a slight edge over fellow drama Therese Raquin. And honestly, aside from these two, what else could be a viable contender? Certainly not MTC's Our Mother's BriefAffair or Misery or China Doll. Will they give one slot to a comedy: An Act of God or Fully Committed? They're both more or less one man shows, though, so I'm skeptical of their chances. The Father has the dramatic heft, it received such critical acclaim from its original production, and it will be on the minds of the nominating committee who will be seeing it right around now before making their picks before May 3.
Fool for Love or Blackbird may slip in, but I think Eclipsed, Father, Humans, and King Charles seems likely.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

CapnHook, thanks for the clarification on Fully Committed.
If Blackbird somehow was ruled eligible for Play instead of Revival, then it clearly gets in alongside The Humans, Eclipsed, and King Charles III. I think that's extremely unlikely, though, so the last slot really comes down to The Father and Therese.
Agreed! He slays it. Instantly likable and in the next breath just cruel. Brilliant. Cool production, but think the supporting cast was very weak. The show sagged considerably when Langella left the stage.
