I really liked The Full Monty from the beginning and championed it throughout its Broadway run. I even blew my chance at winning the grand prize at our Tony Awards party by sticking to my guns and voting TFM Best Score and Best Featured Actress. In my mind it deserved Best Musical too, though I knew it didn't have a chance there.
I enjoyed DRS immensely but the one thing I thought it lacked, as compared to TFM, was a touching moment that made the funny lyrics and larger-than-life characters "real." In TFM, that was "Breeze Off the River." The closest thing DRS has to that moment is "Love Sneaks In," and I don't think it rings as true. Still, I think Yazbek is a gifted writer whose greatest triumph is yet to come. Keep your eyes and ears open.

"Better" is a relative thing, NO? I mean, I had a GREAT time at DRS -- thanks to Norbert -- and I think that TFM may be better written and executed. People should still go and see DRS. I had a wonderful evening . . . . .

SayWhyNot, I LOVE your avatar of Mildred Natwick! I always thought that 70, GIRLS, 70 deserved a longer run than 32 performances.
The lyrics to "Jeanette's Showbiz Number" rock!
"I played with hoofers who couldn't hoof
I played with tone-deaf singers
And once, when I insulted Frank,
I played with broken fingers."
"This guy needs a helmet
That guy needs some lypo
And I could use some Geritol
Delivered in a hypo
But I don't wanna gripe! Oooooohhh..."
To this day I still think Kathleen Freeman was screwed ROYALLY out of a Tony (Cady Huffman who?)!

"Who is she?"
"I don't know. She just showed up. With a piano."
Oy, it's funny because that role wasn't in the movie. And it was just funny to write her in randomly like that. Terrance McNally is great!
I have the script at home somewhere.

"I've got a friend" like Carol King, or was it Carly Simon used to sing?
I always get those two confused, but anyway...
I do too I always confuse them!!
Sorry, I love that song though. You Walk With Me is also one of the prettiest ballads I have EVER heard
Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)
