Many people, including myself, are way into Dirty Rotten Scoundrels right now so, if you are one of those people I suggest listening to
The Full Monty which I think is Yazbecks finer work and sort of got mauled over by the producers in 2001. Tell me what you think.

Without a doubt, THE FULL MONTY was a better all-round show. The score is sensational. The Gateway Playhouse in this town is mounting a production of MONTY this week. It'll be interesting to see how the senior citizens, who patronize this theater in droves, will react to MONTY.
Regarding, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, I must say the lyrics are incredibly sharp.
How Hysterical...
I was just having this conversation the other day! I was telling friends that although I enjoyed DRS, that FULL MONTY Was Yazbeck's better work! Everyone thought I was crazy! Well at least there are some people with taste around here!

Enjoyable show, but the Broadway production had the ugliest sets I've ever seen.

Jon,
THE FULL MONTY was set in a steel town. What did you expect, the Palace of Versailles on stage?

I only saw the recent tour, but I thought the sets were great. I liked how they used those steel panals as walls, very creative, i think. I thought it was an amazing show. my parents couldn't get past the fact that they were strippers, but too me it was a great story and a great score.
Is the OBC worth buying/still enjoyabke even without having seen the show? I adored DRS and was considering getting it.
I like TFM CD :)
I LOVE TFM!!
actually, i got more into it after i saw patrick wilson in OKLAHOMA a few years go. "big ass rock" had my laughing on the ground!

Pray tell, how does one "laugh on the ground"? Is it any different from any other form of laughter?
lol. i was laughing so hard that i couldn't stand up anymore cuz my tummy hurt, so i was laughing on the ground! haha

CurtainUp-I barely heard any sound clips of the OBC before I bought it and some of the songs are played constantly on iTunes to this day.
I prefer The Full Monty over DRS. I think the lyrics to TFM are incredible and sharp. Sometimes I felt DRS's lyrics were a little forced.
THE FULL MONTY was a very enjoyable show, and was THE hot ticket of the 2000-01 season and was predicted to win a slew of Tonys and have a very long run...until a certain Mel Brooks show stole ALL of its thunder (C'mon! It was robbed of AT LEAST two Tonys!). Forget THE PRODUCERS, this was the show that started to get people intersted into musical comedy again. "Man", "Big Ass Rock", and "Jeanette's Showbiz Number" has extremely witty lyrics.
I also believe that MONTY (as well as many Broadway shows) was hurt by 9/11 as well.

"When the beef comes out, you do the carvin'
You hate Tom Cruise, but you love Lee Marvin
You're a Man, and that's a bonus
'cuz when you're swingin' your cajones
You'll show 'em what
Testosterone is..."
Ya gotta love lyrics like that...and Patrick gave a wonderful little bump and grind move to accentuate "cajones"... :o)

I didn't really like the movie or the show when I saw it on Broadway, but I am now converted. I recently played Harold in one of the first regional productions of "Full Monty," and I fell in love with it. AWESOME score. Sometimes you just need to give things a second chance...
personally, i didn't like the score.
i didn't HATE it, it just didn't do anything for me...i thought it was kind of cheap? no, that's the wrong word, transparent maybe? oh, i don't know - i just didn't like it.
the only song i really listen to is you walk with me and sometimes the overture, which is good.
i think i need to see it again, and to find any real depth. and i KNOW it is a light hearted comedy, but still...
I'm a huge Full Monty fan and most definitely NOT a DRS fan...I think Full Monty is far superior, I enjoyed the show a lot more.
And how can you deny the amazingness of Patick Wilson? It's a great OBCR.

I just saw a summer stock production of TFM. It was a very well done production. I realized again how great a show it really is. I still think that it should have won the Tony for Best Musical. It is a small show with a great script and score.

It should have won Best Musical and Best Score.
Yazbek has been twiced screwed over by the "big hits"
I saw it just a few days after 9/11 and got 1st row mezz at tkts. I thought it was really terrific and I was pleasantly surprised. My mom is coming to NYC soon and i think DRS will be one of the shows we see.

Jeanette's showbiz number was excellent. The lyrics in general are great...
"So let me say it one more time,
cause I don't wanna bore ya,
I got some bad news for ya,
things could better..."
The delivery of lines in the cast I saw was great as well; really started laughing when she said, "Could they get any worse, I don't think so," and "So sue me, it's the truth!"
Very funny show...
