Which male actor do you think could make a good, future Edna Turnblad in "Hairspray"? I read that John Waters had Anthony Hopkins in mind to play the part in an upcoming film of the musical. Other than Harvey or Bruce, who do you see in the house slippers and iron in their hand?

John Goodman.

I second John Goodman!

Nathan Lane!

But that's just wishful thinking...hey he donned drag in "The Birdcage".

I was kind of thinking Nathan Lane. Didn't he sing some demos at one point?

What about Drew Carey? LOL.

I'd have to agree with John Goodman...he would be SOOOO good. I also think Jim Belushi could be funny, just because he is a man's man. I would say Drew Carey but he doesn't have the charm to pull it off.

This might sound a little crazy but Marc Shaiman would be fantastic as Edna. It would work.

I said Drew Carey because I am watching Who's Line now. (They are doing something in the style of West Side Story now)

John Belushi...hmmm...
Ernie Sabella?

I'll 5th John Goodman, and 3rd Nathan Lane. But I think John Goodman would be better, he's bigger.

I agree with Marc Shaiman...and I'm not just saying that so he will cast me on Hairspray or Catch Me If You Can (but it can't hurt...just kidding :) ) He definitely seems to have the charm and personality to be able to pull it off, as well as the chops. ow tall is he though? Most Edna's have to be fairly tall to make Tracy look shrot, so if Marc fits that qualification then I think he should go for it.

Marc is short but who cares. Like mother like daughter.
I think he would be fantastic I would love Scott to be cast as his husband. It would be a great benefit.
I would love to see them do it to raise money for Broadway Cares or Kerry!

Holy Crap! I could totally see Scott as Wilbur too, you are right. That would make SUCH a good charity event. Hah...I volunteer my services to play Link for them for free re: The Future 'Edna Turnblad' But seriously they would be great in both those roles, Marc...are you listening?

I would go if they brought the dog in a tux.
I have fallen in love with Marc's dog.
The cat is a different story.
But Wally Woo! How cute is that dog!

Hah...well Amber IS a bitch, so Wally Woo might be able to pull that off. hah...I just imagined the dog in a little version of the You Can't Stop the Beat dress and wig that Amber wears...oh if only I had photoshop.

I love John Goodman and think he could be amazing in the role. He was in Big River, ya know? I also think he would be a great Max in The Producers.

I think that Barry Humphries would be an inspired choice, but Barry as Edna Turnblad, not as Dame Edna. The character of Dame Edna would overshadow the plot, but Barry as a character man is quite delightful and would wow us all.
