The Grammy's proved one Broadway related thing:

…and that is…. not only WILL Beyonce play Deena Jones if the film version of DREAMGIRLS ever happens

but….

Beyonce SHOULD play Deena Jones if the film version of DREAMGIRLS ever happens.

That woman stood on stage with Prince, PRINCE, (who by the way, never sounded or looked more gorgeous) and held her own in every single way!

I DARE anyone on a Broadway stage today to do the same and not walk away mortified and limping......

Her voice, at this stage of the game, has taken on a beautiful hue and her "coloratura" has chromatic jazz inflections, which are as unusual as they are wonderfully executed...and original!

She’s the “the real thing” folks!

And in other news, X-TINA (Christina), sings in a suit and realizes by doing so you are forced to just listen to her resplendent jewel of a voice…..when she changed into the hootchie-mama outfit to accept her award, she was visibly uncomfortable…and she has turned into a performer..not just a voice...

Now all Christina needs to do is get to Broadway as “Evita” or “Funny Girl” and I’ll be happy!

Christina was fantastic! :)
I love that she sang the beginning of the song with no music so that we could just hear her beautiful voice, and that she was dressed so simply. It wasn't like when Britney wore a suit and then ripped it off to reveal a shear/nude-colored outfit. Christina was incredibely professional last night; and she proved that she has pure talent. She doesn't need a bunch of background dancers or voice machines that make her sound like a robot. And she certainly does not lip-synch. re: The Grammy's proved one Broadway related thing... She deserved that Grammy. Stripped is a great album.

Beyonce was great. What a voice on her as well. I loved when she did that number towards the end where she looked like she was in a painting. her voice and her look were absoluely stunning.
Perhaps future music for my generation is not as doomed as I thought it would be.

I was impressed with both of them, and Alicia keys is a favorite.

I love Alicia but there was something wrong with the ear monitor headsets during the whole Vandross part..

Alicia was having some pitch problems, but my god, Dion does her whole number without hearing herself...and is superb.....it sounds so easy but you try doing that in a 30,000 seat acoustic free arena...

A singer without a monitor is like being left on a raft in an ocean...you can't hear a thing....least of all yourself....

You can't hear a thing when you're on a raft in an ocean? Least of all yourself? I would assume that no matter how loud the ocean is, you could hear yourself.

Whilst I agree with you that Beyonce most certainly can sing ( I think shes fantastic and such a powerful woman), I think her big problem is her acting skills. So for her to do the film version of DreamGirls would worry the hell out of me, I love the show to death and I can NOT stand that girl acting. Great voice indeed, but I'm sorry, her singing and acting abilities don't balance one another.

Good one Namo.

Former rocker? Baby, I'm very much still a rocker. And quite worried about the showtunes teens.

Please. The Mudd Club was just a velvet rope fake punk Studio 54 wannabe place that was the exact opposite of what real rockers stood for. Roseland rocks harder.

I agree about Beyonce's acting skills. However, I have REALLY warmed up to her, and I am starting to really like her as a performer. Her voice really used to irritate me in Destiny's Child where she would do all those squeaky riffling effects while singing. But when she performed the National Anthem at the Super-Bowl, and sang it beautifully, and in such a classy manner, I fell in love with her. But again, her acting needs work.

As for Christina, I was so proud of her and excited when she won. She REALLY deserved it, and I agree with your comments TheatreBaby - She really showed class, and talent. She IS the real thing. What a voice! Her performance of "Beautiful" was just incredible. Too bad, I didn't see it during the initial airing of the show, due to DAMNED rehearsals!!! But when I did watch the tape I was completely floored.

Maybe you're right....the future of current music isn't so bleak after all. Now....if we could only get Britney Spears to stop making albums, and just dissapear from the music scene, then things will really look bright....

Cheers,
The Balladeer

Beyonce's performance on the Grammy's was so hidiously TACKY. TACKY TACKY TACKY. I nearly barfed. That set, that dress and then when I thought it couldn't get any worse a freakin dove flies into her hand. A Dove! What the hell!!! Anyway Christina deserved that Grammy she can sing the crap out of anything. Justin Timberlake...ugh whatever.

I'm pretty sure Beyonce designed and built all the sets herself. Control freak.

We may as well start calling her B. Kno.

She is now officially as overexposed as J. Lo, Britney, etc. Does she EVER turn down a gig?

Excuse me, it just annoys the hell out of me when I see unwarrented negativity. Uniq, I have yet to see you say ANYTHING positive about anything. Your arrogance and negativity make ME want to puke. Really, do you think you could have done better than Beyonce? At least she has class and some respect for herself, and has singing talent. When you are up there and win quite a few Grammys in one night, then we'll talk. Front Row, maybe there is a reason for her being "overexposed" and that could be the fact that um, People enjoy watching her performances? That is her job.....to get out there and be exposed so that she can sell records? Isn't that the point? Honestly, people say the dumbest things.

I LOVE Xtina, but I guess I was not as whelmed as you guys last night. I thought her performance of "Beautiful" on SNL was STUNNING. Last night, I thought she was pitchy and did WAY WAY WAAYAYAYAYAYAY too many melismas. But, I'm very glad she won last night and that she is still loved by many.

I thought Beyonce definitely secured a superstar status last night. Coupled with her gorgeous National Anthem, her performances last night gave me much respect for her. Seeing Prince again was soooo cool. I do think "Dangerously In Love 2" was incredible, but it did have more endings that ROTK and the dove was a little cheesy.

I thought Justin did a really nice job--especially with Arturo Sandoval. I hate that they made Justin apologize. I think Janet SHOULD have come--dressed impeccably--with no apologies. Just business again as usual.

The White Stripes rocked my ass off--I have such a crush on Jack White, now! There was a lot of good stuff last night.
