Ahh...I have a feeling I'll be amazon-ing it. More money than I really wanted to spend though. I'm so pissed I missed one on eBay from an American seller (my internet zapped out about an hour before the auction ended).
Thank you so much for posting the link to the Times audio interview with Dominic, its beautiful and I love seeing the different pictures, particularly the end ones from Angus McIndoe.
I know, weren't those great?!?!? I remembered hearing about the audio slide show, but I missed it the first time around, and I couldn't manage to dig it up. I was giddy as a school girl when I saw it listed on the special Tony page.
There were quite a few different pictures in that slide show. I loved the one from the French scene too...I don't think I'd seen that before. But yeah, the Angus ones take the cake!
Pretty much any pictures that can be fished up of them are worth seeing.
I wholeheartedly agree!
Did you see the Playbill.com interview with the 8 boys?? Very interesting.
also entertaining
I definitely did, it was good to see something that talked to all of them.
Yeah, you never hear anything from anyone but Barnett/Cooper, so I was thrilled to read stuff by/about the rest of them...I must say I was a bit disappointed by Knott's very brief character description. I find Lockwood kind of fascinating (why the agnst/anger?!?!). "He knows himself and isn't afraid to speak his mind but at the same time is open to new opinions and ideas" is kind of a blech answer, imho. Most of the other guys were pretty detailed/thoughtful about their responses. I think it was just disappointing because as soon as I read Samuel Anderson's I skipped down to Knott and was like: that's it?!?!? I wanted to know what the deal is with shoes/green socks and the pins/bracelets. Is he like an angry hippy? What's the deal Andy?!?!? "He's open to new ideas" just doesn't cut it!
/rant.
But yeah...great article! Thanks Playbill people for finding a way to incorporate all the boys in an interview/article.
Lockwood's buttons and garb have a punk/new wave element. It's a style of the '80s.
Makes sense...what a dolt. Though there's something about the wooden beaded bracelets and the shoes that just sent off some sort of hippy vibe (for whatever, obviously unfounded, reason) more than punk/new wave.
Anyway, I'd have loved to have heard more of his take on the punk/new wave element, since it would seem that sets him apart from the rest of the lot a bit!
Whenever there's a uniform involved you always have the one person who breaks the pattern. When I was in high school the big thing was to wear pins on your jacket as your way of being "different." I actually really like that Lockwood's character is a bit broken out from the rest of them that way, its very true to form for that to happen.
I know! I love that about his character. I think he is so interesting. The first time I saw the show I was in the front row, and I kept trying to make out his pins, and I think his bag was kind of written all over (I know Timms was too) and whenever they'd walk by, I'd try to check it out. Just wish he'd had a bit more to say about his character in that article. I found him fascinating to watch the second time I saw the show in the classroom scenes (when he wasn't blocked out by the desk/Jamie Parker).
what is WRONG with being blocked by JAMIE PARKER, i might add!!??
Oh not a damn thing...if there was anyone to be doing the blocking...
haha.
i had to post that cuze i'd never seen the show. so, of course, i have no clue what ur talking about.
carry on
Lockwood's bag has a lot of football references on it, like MUFC...Manchester United Football Club.
I spent a whole scene studying his bag one time I saw it.
There needs to be an article written exploring stuff like that! I'd LOVE to see all their bags...and their notebooks!!! And to fully inspect the classroom set. This would definitely be a show I'd love to go backstage at and explore props and sets and such.
Thanks for the bag info. I really couldn't make much out.
ETA: C-Q, the way the desks are set up, if you're in the front/side, either the desks or the student sitting on the end (Jamie for the most part on the side where I was sitting) block out about half the students. I think Lockwood was blocked in nearly every scene (though at one point, when Irwin's sharing lessons, he sits where Jamie ususally does)
they should auction off their journals for BCEFA or something...
I'm curious what will show up at the Flea Market, if anything.
when IS the flea market?
by some off fluke (ie: a hurricane) i ended up at the Flea last year. it was LOTSA fun!
I want to say sometime at the end of September.
i'm thinking thats right...
Good lord, look at all these History Boys avatars! What a bunch of loons!
Anyway, the flea market is good fun. I love it when fun props show up (like Kelli O'Hara's sketches from Piazza). Spelling Bee had some great stuff last year, my favorite being the bound collections of their permission slips (or whatever the hell they were). I bought two for gifts, and I'm kicking myself now for not buying one for myself.
How about some notebooks, boys?!?!? Who's doodling? Who's taking notes? Who's just scribbling nonsensical lines. These are the things the crazies want to know!
The Flea Market is usually the third or fourth Sunday in September...it'll be after HB closes.
Edit: Rudge's bag says something to the effect of I love Timms on it. I noticed that another time I was there...I pay too much attention to that kind of stuff.
Very interesting, re: Rudge's bag. I couldn't tell what was written on it (it looked like it was whiteout or something, from what I recall). All I could discern with any degree of certainty was "Don Scripps" on the inside flap of his bag.
You've got a sharp eye, bythesword!
