Does anyone know if they are planning or are even thinking about a tour of the show? If not I'm sure some regional theatres or universities around my area (Minnesota) will produce it.
um... ok?
i don't think any tour is in the works. but i may be wrong

uh... That's nice?
In order for that to happen, production rights need to be released, which doesn't appear to be terribly imminent right now.

Very doubtful that a tour would happen and if it were to happen it couldn't be with this cast which under Equity rules can't work in this country beyond October. I'm pretty sure there's no way they would create a production with an American cast (sounds disatrous to me). So, no, a tour is pretty much out of the question. If you want to see this cast and can't get to NYC in the next several months, the film will be out later this fall.
Since the play has been around for a couple of years and been published (and the script contains info on whom to contact for performance rights), my guess is that the US rights will likely be released very shortly (if they're not available already).
Do plays even get tours in this day and age? I remember going to a tour of AMADEUS back when I was a kid and loving every minute of it.
Did THE GRADUATE tour? (Not that I'd call that debacle a "play," mind you.)

It's not as common as musicals, but it still happens occasionally. Doubt is launching a tour at the end of the year.

Doubt is going to tour later this year with Cherry Jones.
And yes, The Graduate did a national tour.
Wasn't Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf going on tour? And I Am My Own Wife went on tour...it does tend to be the exception rather than the rule though.
It's a shame they'll be getting the boot in October. It would have been nice if they could have hit a few major cities like Boston and Chicago.
Speaking of HB, did anyone see the show last night?? I heard there was a bit of a ruckus in standing room. Sounded kind of bizarre.
Golda's Balcony too!!

And I Am My Own Wife.
Bumping this up, because I can't see starting another History Boys thread.
I just listened to the Dominic Cooper audio slideshow on the Times website. There were some fun different pictures on there (especially the two others from Angus of the group).
It was also interesting to find out that it's Stewart Dakin. Am I the only one who was kind of curious to find out what their names are? I know 3 of them now: they say it's David Posner in the show, Stewart Dakin, and then Don Scripps (the inside flap of his bag said it in huge letters). Yeah, I'm a dork, but it's a fun little tidbit.

Virginia Woolf is sort of touring in the next year. I know that it's scheduled to play the Kennedy Center with Turner later this year.

Turner and Irwin are doing the Woolf tour, I believe.
Cherry is indeed doing the Doubt tour and is expecting Brian O'Byrne to join her. "It's just the matter of signing the contract," she told me.
How did you get to talk to Cherry Jones? Were you twirling your cell phone in the front row?

The original cast is in the movie version of THE HISTORY BOYS. I think it releases in the fall. There's also a radio version of the play with the same cast - however, I think that's a BBC thing and am not sure that it's easily available.
You can buy the radio play on CD.
History Boys cd @ amazon.co.uk
I saw that it was up on amazon.uk. Possibly a stupid question, but audio CDs are region free, correct? I'm tempted to buy a copy of the radio recording, but I'd hate to spend all that money, plus what I'm sure would be exorbitant shipping fees to not have it work.
I believe so, mabel, as I've bought CDs in France and England and have had no problem.

regional and college theatres might shy away from this one as there's only one female role... but we'll see i guess. i, for one, would have it produced everywhere, but it just might not be plausible for most theatres.
I bought the audio CD of The History Boys and it plays just fine here in the US.
Thanks for the CD info guys. I thought that was the case, but had a momentary lapse, thinking CDs may be iffy a' la regional DVDs. I just didn't want to pay $25+ only to have it not work.
Good to know!
ETA: Where'd you get yours, bythesword84? Amazon.uk? Ebay? London?
I don't ever want to witness American actors performing this play.
HAHA...
what if they've got good accents? kidding
I have a friend who lives in Manchester, she bought it for me and sent it over.
