I think what Feinberg meant by "demonstrative" was showy or flashy. In that case I would agree. Cerveris is remarkable in Fun Home, but it is a nuanced and naturalistic approach. Those types of performances can sometimes be overlooked for awards in favor of a more larger-than-life performance. James and Fairchild give "bigger" performances, Cerveris makes it look easy.
Can anyone explain why people are predicting Clarkson? Wasnt she singled out as the weak link in the cast?
And vote splitting isnt really a thing, unless voters are not united behind one cast member. In recent years we have seen Sophie Okonedo, Mark Rylance, and Douglas Hodge win when they were nominated against 1 or 2 other co-stars. Having multiple nominees in a category just demonstrates the strong support for a show. But in the case of featured actor in a musical, i do think Karl can take it. I dont think Something Rotten voters are united behind Borle or Oscar. Oscar has the big number, but less of a part. Borle does much more physical work and gets a beefier role, but his musical numbers arent the most memorable. Ultimately I think its Karl vs. Borle, not Karl vs. Oscar.
