Drama League Awards 2026 Apr 20 2026, 12:38:02 PM
I feel like this group either silently changed some rules without announcing it, or they tallied things incorrectly.
They have previously had a limit of two performers per show in the distinguished performance category. So even if 3 or 4 actors technically earned enough votes to get in, only the top two vote getters would ultimately be nominated. And yet, all three leads for Ragtime are nominated here.
Didn't they also used to have a rule about Off-Broadway shows being

No Oedipus in revival or director!? Wow. It did manage to get Lesley Manville in.
Was this group invited to that show?

BEACHES Previews Apr 20 2026, 11:25:21 AM
I didn't expect this to be great, but I wasn't prepared for it to be this bad.
This score is ROUGH. Even in this thin year there is just no way this gets a Tony nomination for the score. The lyrics are banal and trite (most musicals have a "I'm changing" number for the lead, but here she LITERALLY sings the words "I'm changing!") The writers didn't find any nuanced or unique ways for their characters to express feelings except for to just st

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/12/26 Apr 14 2026, 03:39:42 PM
Do we even know if any cast members of Death Becomes Her are leaving soon? I agree that a big cast refresh might be the only big advertising strategy they could successfully leverage to boost sales at this point. But then again, this would also means they must get a really exciting cast together. I kept expecting sales to improve as we left February...but yikes. This thing needs help.
I'm also quite shocked that Cats didn't break the million dollar mark yet, but I guess lots of

Jellicle Replacement Cats Apr 9 2026, 01:24:22 PM
I'd love to see both of the choreographers step into a role at some point during this show's life. Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons are both ballroom icons who could make great replacements at some point.

Pink to Host the 2026 Tony Awards Apr 9 2026, 01:15:57 PM
If you gave me 200 guesses as to who they would choose as host, I would never have come up with Pink. It's random, but I do like her and she's extraordinarily talented, she can create a killer opening number and hopefully get more folks than usual to tune in. So, great I guess!
Does this mean we get her performing alongside & Juliet cast on the telecast? The inclusion of "F**kin Perfect" in that musical is her only real tie to Broadway I believe. And the show coul

Popcorn at Dog Day Afternoon - New Normal? Apr 8 2026, 01:46:40 PM
Just one more thing to make this play a torturous experience. (But yes, this is an ATG thing, they have popcorn buckets at all of their theaters now. A cheap snack they can sell at a premium).

BECKY SHAW Previews Apr 6 2026, 11:56:34 AM
I really wanted to love this, especially after hearing so many positive thoughts during previews. But after a really intriguing setup in the first two scenes...I felt like the play completely loses focus and has no idea what this story is actually about. I was begging for it to end about 30 minutes before it finally did. So many ideas are introduced and compete with one another over which one gets to be the central thesis of the script, but it feels like none of them win. I missed this Off-Br

Laura Benanti LOL Apr 2 2026, 04:29:32 PM
Ugh, she would have been an AMAZING Ruth!

Laura Benanti LOL Apr 2 2026, 01:42:17 PM
I maintain that Laura would be an utterly fabulous Madeline Ashton. And I think her name would sell tickets on par with, or exceed, Hilty. After her past on-stage injury, perhaps she might have some PTSD at tackling that type of physical comedy again haha, but I can't stop thinking about the way she would chew through that material.
Also do we remember those videos she did dressed as Fosca from Passion in Times Square? hysterical. I don't think that show will ever be a com

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 3/29/26 Apr 1 2026, 10:33:57 AM
A great jump for Moulin Rouge, but I honestly expected it to hit the $2 million mark with Megan in the role.
I'm surprised & Juliet has fallen so much, it felt like such an easy sell for tourists, and especially families. But as it stands, its just a matter of whether they decide to close it around labor day or try to push through the holiday season.
I believe the weekly nut for The Jellicle Ball is about $900k is memory serves? Would have liked to see them start with a

DOG DAY AFTERNOON Previews Mar 30 2026, 12:32:51 PM
Well this was a disappointment. I'm quite perplexed by the consistent use of comedy throughout a bank heist story. Not that there can't be comedy in the story, but instead of comedy being the result of nail biting tension, it completely robs the play of ANY tension or stakes. The hostages are just lounging about cracking jokes until the play decides "Oh maybe Sal should be menacing here" but I never felt scared for them. The "Attica" moment is...YIKES. All of a sud

Sardi’s Sold to the Shuberts; Will Undergo Renovations Mar 27 2026, 02:47:36 PM
Glad it's sticking around and I echo others in that I truly hope the entire menu is shaken up. I always get a kick out of watching the famous actors, journalists, producers and more at the caricature unveilings and other press events there as they dodge the passed appetizers like the plague. Everyone knows the food is gross, you're there for the history and the experience. But wouldn't it be great if we could have the experience AND food that was edible?

Plays You Hope Get Revived Mar 20 2026, 02:02:43 PM
I would love a big glorious production of Amadeus. I wish I could go back in time and see Tim Curry and Ian McKellan do that one. I know an idea for a revival has been being kicked around for a few years but has yet to materialize. I'd love more BIG productions of classics, like The Philadelphia Story with a nice grand set. Or The Woman in Black with spooky ghostly effects. Remember big sets? I miss them.
There's a bunch of Ter

New York Gave These Broadway Shows Millions — And They Flopped Anyway Mar 20 2026, 01:48:21 PM
I hate when articles say things like "but revenue this year is up more than ever". Well sure if you are talking about GROSS revenue, which they are. But the cost of mounting shows has drastically increased. We have more shows than ever in the "million dollar club" of grosses each week. But that doesn't mean anything these days, when big musicals have weekly break-evens of $900 to 1.1 million. If your gross is $1.3 million but you have only put about $200k toward recoup

Gillian Anderson & Billy Crudup to star in West End VIRGINIA WOOLF, dir. Marianne Elliott Mar 18 2026, 02:51:08 PM
I could see this transferring to New York...but perhaps not Broadway. Anderson has been reluctant to stay put in the US for long periods of time for work. I have to imagine it would be a good 6 month commitment on Broadway, between rehearsals and a long enough run to recoup. Based on past behavior, I'm not holding my breath that she would want to uproot her London life for that long.
Her production of Streetcar Named Desire transferred to St. Ann's Warehouse, and I t

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 3/8/26 Mar 10 2026, 03:07:46 PM
Does anyone know when the current cast members contracts are up on Death Becomes Her? I adore those actors (Simard is one of my all time favorites) but I concur with others that I'm not sure what other move they have to turn the numbers back around other than an entirely new cast (with the requisite PR tour and marketing campaign to reinvigorate ticket buyers). The numbers will undoubtedly come up again as we enter the heart of the spring when tourists return in greater numbers and look f

Celebs Seeing Shows as Ads Mar 3 2026, 10:14:41 AM
What BrodyFosse said. If a celeb posts organically to their own page about the great experience they had at the show, it generates incredibly valuable engagement. But this type of "ad" that says "look who came to see us" does nothing and is just a way for the team to post something.

Donald Trump bioplay DONALD from THE LEHMAN TRILOGY author Stefano Massini sets UK premiere Feb 27 2026, 01:36:30 PM
They'd have to pay ME to see this. In no world would I spend money to sit through more Trump BS, even if it is taking him to task. He already occupies far too much space.

Oh Mary Tour Feb 25 2026, 06:01:07 PM
I have not heard any casting on this, but like others, I do think Jinkx Monsoon would be a good fit for this. She has a major profile, is used to touring life, and has been willing to return to the show. If they can't get her, slotting in another Drag Race star like Bianca Del Rio or Ginger Minj would give it some star power and the requisite zany energy. Those girls all tour regularly with their own drag shows so it might take less convincing than other stars.
