NYTimes Tony Award Predictions

This is why I think Cats The Jellicle Ball is still ahead for Revival. It's most improved! Most reinvented! Of course the straight masses and out of towners don't know about ballroom. But theater, like any good art form, teaches us by exposure. Im sure most Tony voters werent Mark Rothko experts but they still awarded Red. They also probably didnt have a robust knowledge of the details in the oslo accords, but they still went ahead and voted for Oslo. I watch musicals and plays all th

Final Tony Predictions in All Categories

I'm thinking of it like this:

LOCKS
Best Play - Liberation
Revival of a Play - Death of a Salesman
Featured Actor in a Play - Alden Ehrenreich
Featured Actress in a Play - Laurie Metcalf
Lighting Design of a Play - Death of a Salesman
Lead Actor in a Musical - Joshua Henry
Lead Actress in a Musical - Caissie Levy
Costume Design of a Musical - Cats: The Jellicle Ball
Scenic, Lighting, Sound Design of a Musical - The Lost

Spring Awakening Revival @ Studio Seaview???

There was previously an idea to do a revival staging with the original cast (Groff, Michele, everyone) at the Atlantic a couple years ago. But those big reunion plans fell apart when Michele booked Funny Girl and then Groff started prepping for Just in Time. Perhaps this reunion is being repurposed for Studio Seaview? But it felt like a project that was specific to the Atlantic (where the show originated in NYC), so maybe this is just wishful thinking and its a brand new, unrelated staging.&n

Three Days Of Rain/A Few Good Men/Other Desert Cities revivals

I'm sort of astounded that we are getting a revival of Three Days of Rain...is anyone really asking for this? They would need an enormous name to sell this. MUCH bigger than Britt Lower.

2026 Tony Winner Predictions

They have Clayton Davis doing the Tony predictions at Variety??? I get that he's their chief awards editor, but...this is really not his expertise? They flew him here for Tony press for a week where, per his socials, he saw Ragtime, Lost Boys, Salesman, and The Jellicle Ball. That's liekly all he's seen this season. He seems to just be basing some predictions off of the thoughts of a few Tony voters he knows which is how we get predictions like Danny Burstein winning featured acto

THE LOST BOYS Reviews

Funny, as days go by, this is the only show I want to win Best Musical! Obviously werent many musicals eligible for that category this year. But The Lost Boys was the ONLY new musical where I left the show and immediately wanted to get tickets to return again and was craving a cast album so I could dive into the score.

What show might move into the Majestic after Beaches closes on Sunday?

That would be a nice fit too!

I'm just not sure what other large scale shows are going to be ready to come in, and surely the Shuberts will try to not let it sit empty for long. There are shows like Dolly and Purple Rain that have the intention of coming in, but not sure where they are in the editing/rewriting stage that they were supposedly in. And there are things like Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil which wants to come in, but as far as I know has not been able to

What show might move into the Majestic after Beaches closes on Sunday?

Dreamgirls is really the only upcoming show that's ready and doesnt have a house, which would feel appropriate for this theater. Paddington has the Hirschfeld. I've heard Damn Yankees is looking at the Lunt. Those would be the only other two announced productions that would be a size/demand fit for the Majestic. So I highly suspect its Dreamgirls.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/17/26

Where did this Celebrity Autobiography thing even come from?? I remarked to a friend of mine in the press that I had never heard of it until the other day (which was opening night?). And they remarked that they hadn't heard anything about it until they got their press invitation! Their RSVP was never responded to either. I mean...where is the advertising? Where is the effort? Where is the anything? There are some utterly fabulous people in the cast lineup, but maybe tell folks that they&#

DEATH BECOMES HER To Close on Broadway June 28, 2026

Well damn. Not surprising. But what is completely mystifying is how they seemingly just let this thing freefall without any major shakeup in tactics to try and reverse course. If new casting wasn't possible, how about new marketing strategies at least? This show held steady in grosses for so long, but then stumbled in the winter and continued to lose more and more each week. But it felt like they didn't try anything new with their advertising to save it. I'll miss this show, it wa

Who's taking Leading Actress in a Musical this year?

It will be Levy and I think a well deserved win.

Mindelle is probably the only person who has a chance to pull off an upset. Especially since it looks less and less likely that Titanique will be able to win Book, so some voters who are fans may reward her here. But I still think Ragtime is just so popular and Levy is singing the hell out of the score. It feels like an easy call for Mother.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10/26

A show in the Hayes outgrossing a show in the Majestic...yikes. So sad. I just don't know what Beaches' strategy is. I guess producers just want to paper all the way through the limited run so they don't have to say they closed early? Papering constantly has dwindling returns and they are quickly running out of people to paper to.

Nearly every major Tony nominated show got at least some kind of bump. But what's weird is the decrease for Fallen Angels. It'

OFFICIAL TONY AWARDS ELIGIBILITY 2025-26

Cinco was quoted in a recent article saying there were 11 new songs...I have no idea how he reached that number because it only looks like 4 to me? But this would likely indicate that they've at least submitted for consideration. I wonder if the admin committee just says to hell with it and allows them to compete since there are so few musicals this season.

Speaking of, I've heard that the next and final eligibility meeting has been moved to tomorrow. So all these category ques

Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

George in DC said: "RexInLights said: "The only pathetic thing is that comment. Mental health and someone’s well being will always be more important than a job."

I can't think of almost any other job where "I just had an emotional breakup" would be a legitimate reason for not fulfilling your work obligation. If I were a producer, I would NEVER hire her again

Pulitzer Prize 2026

Even if the author is technically eligible, I don't think Prince Faggot factors in here. The Pulitzer Prize for Drama is specifically for a work that deals with American life. This play is specifically exploring a fictionalized version of the British royal family. Now one can surely make the argument that the themes are universally queer, intentionally so, and therefore we don't need to apply the messages of the play only to British culture. And of course it does include the autobiogr

Will the Tony Awards renew their contract with CBS?

I think CBS might renew, but perhaps not with a full 10 year contract.

I'm not sure any of the other "big four" networks would go for it. PBS would be a good fit, but I don't think they can afford it right now. So if CBS doesn't keep the show it would probably head to a lesser network like TBS.

THE BALUSTERS Reviews

@TheatreMonkey except Oedipus has already been ruled a revival. Robert Icke will appear on the ballot in the Play Revival category for his adaptation.

Best Play will surely consist of Liberation, Giant, The Balusters, and Little Bear Ridge Road. Punch would be next in line but I’m not sure it’s strong enough to take out any of these four despite its Olivier win.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/19/26

Yikes on Bikes! What a rough report to read.

The fact that many of these shows haven't announced closing already is a sign at how little there is waiting to come in.

And I know many folks in another thread jumped on a "Schmigadoon is winning Best Musical" thought because of the warm reviews. But these numbers solidify to me that Best Musical is Two Strangers or Lost Boys. Schmigadoon and Titanique are limited runs. But a Best Musical win could be the on

Drama League Awards 2026

I feel like this group either silently changed some rules without announcing it, or they tallied things incorrectly.

They have previously had a limit of two performers per show in the distinguished performance category. So even if 3 or 4 actors technically earned enough votes to get in, only the top two vote getters would ultimately be nominated. And yet, all three leads for Ragtime are nominated here.

Didn't they also used to have a rule about Off-Broadway shows being

Drama League Awards 2026

No Oedipus in revival or director!? Wow. It did manage to get Lesley Manville in.

Was this group invited to that show?
