Wonderful! The actors certainly deserve a raise. And of course, now more people will have an opportunity to see the show!

There's no reason for such narrow-mindedness, pettiness and nastiness.
Brilliant shows close early all the time (look at Sondheim's entire career -- all but four shows were financial flops) and lousy ones often sell out for years at a time. The highly subjective notion of "quality" doesn't enter into it. That's simply the nature of the commerical theatre.
I will add, highly subjectively, that I think PIAZZA is a wonderful show with a wonderful score and production, but IMO CAROLINE was a landmark -- one of the finest creations in the musical theatre (score, libretto, direction, performances, design) in the last couple of decades.
Sorry, you don't agree.

Sad but true. I agree - with that.

i think due to the fact that piazza is a love story, it might be selling better to tourists than caroline did. going to see a musical about young woman falling in love on vacation in italy sounds better to some than going to see a musical about a black maid living in the 50s (right?)....you know what i mean?
as everyone knows, its all about the way you market a show.
amen to your comment about sondheim margo.

Caroline was remarkable. I still marvel over how an entire show was constructed around a mundane subject like coins left in a boy's pocket, while simultaneously tackling racism, poverty and dysfunctional families.

I've been scrapping my pennies together for the past months to get to NYC to see it, justifying the expense of flying out one night, seeing the show twice, and flying home the next night, because it was so time-limited. Now I don't have the excuse. Anyone want to put me up for a few nights and join me on a week-long Piazza-fest?

First - post -
I'm primarily a jazz musician/listener - and not a big theatre "fan" however - I first heard "Baby Moon" and "Come To Jesus" on the radio, and I said (literally,if I recall - and pardon my French) "What the F*ck was that - that was UNBELIEVABLE composing". And so, I've been hooked on this guy's music now for a few years. Not all of it "works", IMHO, but when it does - wow.
I bought the LITP cd recently, and it's terrific. I'm going to see the show with my wife in July.
So, just to let you all know - his music is getting around in non-theatre-worlds and I've been singing its praises to my other musician friends.
I'm particularly impressed by how well he combines different styles of music into his own.
Any other composers/musicians here?
Rick

This is one of the most beautiful musicals ever. The cast could not be more perfect either. The chemistry between Matt and Kelli is amazing. I am in love with the beautiful Victoria Clark.
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
