I heard that the little ermaid was coming to Broadway in 2005, does anyone know if that's true? If it's not do you know when or if it will be coming? Thanks!

I am not sure about a Broadway production, but there has been a workshop before. Gavin Creel read for the part of Eric.

If they could stick to the original Brothers Grimm story of the Little Mermaid - it would be an amazing story (though, technically, I just can't figure out how they'd do an entire show that supposedly takes place under water...they'd have to fly everyone in the cast to make them look like they're swimming, and God knows there's been a lot of mishaps with trying to fly people on Broadway lately - just look at that mess Wicked)...anywhoo - if they do the original story (very dark) and get a good writer - I'd be there in a heartbeat, Possums.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

The Brothers Grimm story is better....and I can't imagine how much effort would go into this show, trying to make everyone look like they're swimming....but it would be pretty cool all the same.

Kriten isn't available till 2006 so I guess it isn't coming to Broadway till then.

How about Kerry Butler, Susan Egan or Sutton Foster? I think they would all make amazing Ariels. And Gavin Creel or David Elder for Eric.

MERMAID is definitely not 2005. 2006 at the earliest. TARZAN is first.

I bet you a million bucks that one of those three women will land the role of Ariel, either in the original cast or somewhere along the lines.

I so can't picture Sutton as Ariel. I think Kerry looks perfect for Ariel... but... I think the part needs to go to an unknown, personally. :) I mean, it's the Little Mermaid, it's going to get the draw it needs regardless because its DISNEY. Who needs names?!

I hope Emily sticks with the production. I honestly can't think of anyone more perfect for Ursula. I mean, you can throw out names like Mary Testa, etc., but bear in mind the whole transition she goes through. re: The Little Mermaid (And I adore Testa... "It's juuuust Tannis Root... take a sip, Rosemary, it's not gonna kill ya!" *looks at Josh*)

What's this about Tarzan? Old news. Search for the older "Disney on Broadway" threads.

They've had TARZAN workshops, also MERMAID workshops, but TARZAN is first on their list.

Also, POPPINS is thrown in there, but not 100% Disney, this it will be before or after MERMAID.

Why not Sutton? Even if they don't need a big named star, she does have it down. That girl can sing. And I am definitely agreeing with you on the Kerry Butler as Ariel.

If they did cast Kerry or Sutton as Ariel, they wouldn't cast them just because of their "name". Kerry and Sutton are two talented ladies, they would be able to pull off the role.

What about Susan Egan?

Butler did Ariel in the workshop, I believe.

I hope Kerry gets to be Ariel, she did the workshop (which I know can mean nothing) and I think she would be AMAZING in the role becasue she loves it so much and she's so talented!

Matthew Bourne as director/choreographer dropped out over a year ago, and that's when the project got shifted to back-burner status. Disney approached several directors about the show, but no deals were finalized, and now Poppins and Tarzan are receiving the attention at Disney Theatricals.

As far as I'm concerned, Disney can produce their ENTIRE canon on Broadway. Let it rot. If the smart ones were 'really' smart, they'd move out into the world and offer diversity. People think Wildhorn is stupid... but he's given the best alternative EVER! Why does Broadway have to remain the success-state? They should use the internet and make musicals famous in ALL cities. Broadway shouldn't be the only option!! If Disney wants it, Disney can have it... My suggestions would be: Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins, Lady and the Tramp, The Jungle Book, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Rescuers, Pete's Dragon, The Great Mouse Detective, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King 2, Return of Jafar, Return to the Sea, Lion King 2 1/2 or whatever it's called, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame... etc.

Meanwhile in Germany, or wherever, we'll have thriving new breakthroughs in the style of Hair, Sweeney Todd etc.

Tanz der Vampire is probably the best musical I have ever beheld and it was not conceived in Broadway... or the West End. When it reached Broadway they tore it apart and turned it into Disneyesque. If they want Disney, they can have it. Make a comedy musical of Atlantis!
