With the sad passing of Gerald Schoenfeld, in many of his obituaries is mention the Schubert controlled Off Broadway house, The Little Schubert. I know that this house opened to great fanfare a number of years back and among its shows have been the short lived 'Fame On 42nd St' and Tommy Tune. After those shows folded I know a few other shows played there but recently I don't recall anything there whatsoever, can anyone provide an update?
Many thanks.

Didn't "My Mother's Jewish, My Father's Italian, and I'm in Therapy" play there for a while?
The problem with the Little Shubert is the cost of doing a show there. It's only a little less than the cost of doing something in a smaller (think Helen Hayes or Booth) Broadway theatre. So most producers, I think, look at it and say why not raise a little bit more capital and go for Broadway?
The LIttle Shubert, as an off-Broadway venue, would be more attractive and viable if they'd lower the rent a little bit.
Rosie's Variety Show will be broadcast live tonight from The Little Shubert.
Thanks for that.
It just seemed to off the map of recent.
Good to hear it's still there even if underused.

It actually hasn't been used since the Three Mo Tenors closed their concert show last year.
Billy Elliot had it most recently, using it as their rehearsal space.

Fame on 42nd Street was there, the Three Mo' Tenors and My mother was Jewish, My Father Italian.
It's really a nice venue, not too big, not too small.
Fame did alright there, from the way people had spoke about it i thought it ran for about 20 performances, it rand for over 250 performances which aint bad really
Here is a vid from the Little Shubert production of Fame on 42nd street

There was a selection from Lee Hall's 'Billy Elliot' diary in the UK press last week and he mentioned that they had taken over an entire Broadway theatre fro the rehearsals and I wondered which one it was? - query now answered!
The last show I saw there was Shocking Head Peter. After it closed, the theatre went empty for a good year and a half before the short lived run of 3 Mo Tenors. Glad Rosie is using it.
Unfortunately, even before the horrible economy, producing a show at this theatre does not make economic sense. If a show has enough appeal to fill a 499 seat house, it is better to take it to Broadway. You get more bang for your buck, even if it is more expensive.
