Don't forget the original productions of "The Sound of Music," "Man of LaMancha," and "Jesus Christ Superstar." re: The Mark Hellinger Theater

The Jule Styne, Comden & Green musical FADE OUT--FADE IN with Carol Burnett played the Mark Hellinger in 1964. I thought it was a great show, but although it got mostly favorable reviews it only lasted 271 performances.

The original production of THE SOUND of MUSIC with Mary Martin played the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on 46th Street. I saw it and loved it.

Love the Fade Out Fade in score &some of the melodies wound up in other Styne shows

FOFI is ripe for a revival. How about Kristin Chenowith ?

As much as I love the Mark Hellinger, I think it would be too big for Drowsy Chaperone.

The producers were banking on the talent of Carol Burnett, but during the run she was injured and took a leave of absence for several months.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

This topic came up once before and a member of the church that now occupies it left a message explaining that the congregation had outgrown the theater and was looking for larger quarters. The Hellinger might become legit again at some point in the future.

The original Broadway runs of Sound of Music, La Mancha and Forum all closed at the Hellinger after opening at other houses.

It was Alan Jay Lerner's favorite house. Witness: My Fair Lady, Clear Day, Coco, 1600 Penna Ave and Lolita (which never got there, having closed on the road). Did I miss any?
