The Michael Ball Show

Has anyone been keeping up with this?

I have (until I go back to school that is...)

Michael has so far sang This Is The Moment and The Impossible Dream, and has also had the West-End cast of Tap Dogs.

Russ Abbott has also been on discussing his role as Fagin in Oliver!

Omid Djalili was on today and confirmed that he is in talks for A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum with Cameron Mackintosh.

This week, Michael will be welcoming Gareth Gates and Cam Mack on Wednesday to discuss the 25th Anniversary of Les Misérables and Mr. Gates will be performing Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (which will be interesting!)

I think this show is a great opportunity to have casts of shows performing in the performance slot, especially ones that could do with a bit more publicity (Sweet Charity, Love Never Dies), but I just wish the show was more sophisticated all round, and on later at night, as a suitable replacement for the likes of Jonathan Ross and Michael Parkinson and good comptetion for the likes of Alan Carr and Graham Norton.

I saw it during the week with Tap Dogs and Joanna Lumley from La Bete and Mistresses. I found it entertaining but that's the only episode I've seen.

The Michael Ball Show

Ugh, i would rather cut all my fingers off than watch this arrogant, OTT, big-headed nob prance round a TV studio every night!!!!!

Am I the only person who can not stand Michael Ball as a performer, presenter, or even as a person!

The Michael Ball Show

Wow...each to there own I guess.

I was at a recent recording and found it fascinating to see how the show is made, compared to how it looks on screen.

I know Jodie Prenger has also recorded an appearence and Kerry Ellis and Brian May are on soon (recording this week I think).

ClapYo'Hands I agree about the shows format but it's your usual daytime fayre and a more sophistcated format would probably only come with a later time slot.

I enjoyed todays interview with Bill Patterson who was there to promote "UK Law and Order" and his current show at the National. And the Russ Abbot and Les Dennis interviews.

p.s thank's to admin for helping me with a login prob, as you can see I've sorted it out now.

Conaries - I assume you don't like Michael Ball?

Have to remember to sky+ tomorrows programme and hope Cameroon Mackintosh expands on 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum', first I heard of CM linked with this show until now, if this happens together with Follies be two good shows to see on the West End.

And of course Michael being the planned star of Chichester's Sweeney Todd next year - so you have a lot of 2011 proposed Sondheim on one show!

And CONaires, Michael Ball has always come across to me as being a really nice friendly chap, and what a performer - what a voice!

The Michael Ball Show

Saw the first one and it was a little shaky but when he finds his stride it will be pretty Ok i think.
Does he still chat to al the gusts together at the beginning, cos that didn't seem to work.

The Michael Ball Show

Second week in and MB already looking much more relaxed imo. Yes they do still have all the guests on together at first, it's working much better now but of course alot depends on who the guests are and what they are discussing on a particular day.

Did he mention the CAST ALBUM CAST ALBUM LONDON FOR HAIRSPRAY? lol

The Michael Ball Show

Unfortunately not....that boat has well and truely sailed The Michael Ball Show was hoping we might have got a tour recording instead.
#11

The Michael Ball Show

Oh what happened there lol!!! this computer really does have a mind of it's own.
#12

The Michael Ball Show

Just seen the other side of you lol
#13

The Michael Ball Show

Maybe a live tour recording? But no, it cannot be...
#14

The Michael Ball Show

Dont get me started on this one but how many times has Joseph been recored on tour etc etc etc etc
#15

The Michael Ball Show

There is just no good recording of Hairspray as far as Edna is concerned (in terms of the fact that Michael Ball is the best).

"Just seen the other side of you lol"

Tried to re-register a while back because I'd lost login info. Didn't think it'd been succesful, but it appears it was lol!!!

Really thought we might get a tour recording of 'Hairspray' still not completely given up hope but not looking very likely is it. If needs be they could always record it in concert form as the did with 'Passion' some years ago. Be good to have all the gang back together again.

The Michael Ball Show

You would think that now with what seems a fantastic production on the road with Mr Ball and Les Dennis, Mr ball would pull his weight (pun slightly intended) as the shows producer and get a great recording out there done live!!!
#20

The Michael Ball Show

Slightly related question - how likely is it that Hair would tour?
#21

The Michael Ball Show

Yep that's why I haven't completely given up hope, just yet. It's such a shame that there is no record of such a brillant OLC and now tour cast.
#22

The Michael Ball Show

Mackintosh rarely, if ever, tours his smaller shows, so I'll say no to 'Hair' and it certainly isn't seen as one of his money spinning ones either.
Its 50/50 as to if he will take out 'Avenue Q' at the moment.
#23

The Michael Ball Show

I wonder if the producers of 'Hairspray' regret not doing a OLCR now, as the show has been so successful and Michael has stayed with the show about 3 years now.

Avenue Q should tour as it would do excellent business, so cheap to produce.
#24

The Michael Ball Show

I'll agree with that ^^

But i'd much rather see Hair or Charity tour.

Charity would surely also be cheap to tour with such a small cast etc?

I also think that Sister Act might tour...at least, it would be a good idea.
#25

The Michael Ball Show

Think Avenue Q is still the perfect candidate to tour, as the overheads are low, Sweet Charity seems the same, but would it sell? I think you would have to stunt cast it at the least.

As Mama said about Hair its lack of longevity in the West End, pus it has a sizeable cast.

Remember that Wicked, Billy Elliot or the Lion King hasn't toured yet and all three would be big money spinners and sit down for long periods.
