... and Joe Machota as Hercules, whose stand-by would be Marc G Dalio who plays Gaston on the BATB tour.

That cast for Hercules works,I think, very well. And for the third muse...I say Heather Headley!

I agree about "The Prince of Egypt." I never thought of that one. That's a great movie (much shorter than the Ten Commandments..I can only handle that once a year) lol

I would love to see how they would part the red sea. That would be some great special effects.

I can see the point about the "theme-parking" of Broadway, but...I do think Disney took a gamble with Julie Taymor (granted, I'm a big fan of hers, so I may not be objective) and the show itself is far from a literal adaptation of the cartoon, and is not remotely "mindless theater."

I also agree that MULAN would make an interesting cartoon-to-stage project and I like that score very much. I find some of the Disney toons to have deeper subject matter, and a few to be pretty much just entertainment. I think HERCULES would follow BEAUTY & THE BEAST in that vein, but MULAN and HUNCHBACK could follow AIDA and LION KING. I would want to see them helmed by a tyro talent like Taymor, though.

Along those lines: for a while I thought I heard that Matthew Bourne (of the male-swan-corps SWAN LAKE and also CAR MAN) was attached to MERMAID, but I think I read recently he had left that developing project for EDWARD SCISSORHANDS THE MUSICAL.

Will: They don't give out awards for helping people be gay... unless you count the Tonys. "I guarantee that we'll have tough times. I guarantee that at some point one or both of us will want to get out. But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life..."

Matthew Bourne left MERMAID due to "creative differences".
I want to see a restaging of the Berlin production Hunchback.

LOL Perhaps we should change the thread to "Animated movies to Broadway Shows."

I knew Anastasia wasn't Disney, but I didn't know The Prince of Egypt wasn't? Excuse me :P As far as I'm concerned, all animation is Disney (even if it's not). LOL It just all falls into the same category. I guess that's not right. That's like saying all white people are the same, or all gay people are the same, etc. I'll have to try and remember that.

Thank you amneris4ever for pointing that out, it was killing me!!! I think however, that Anastasia would make a good musical. My vote for disney shows is The Little Mermaid, it's always been a fav. of mine, and Kerry would ROCK!!!

the only problem with most disney shows is what you get. with the lion king and beauty and the beast, you pay $75-$100 to see a live version of the animated movie. if they were to come up with a new musical, i would like to see a fresh idea. something that they have never done. i do agree hercules would be good with the dreamgirls, but again, i'm not paying $75 to see a live version of the movie when i can get better seats, better food and a closer bathroom for like 14 bux at walmart. the reason AIDA was so great was because it was NEVER done as anything before (excluding the opera) and it was a fresh, new idea. i loved it! lion king had the "wow" factor. its opens, people go "wow" and that was it.

*gets off soapbox* i'm done. :)

there are more broadway people for the muses of Hercules (from the animated movie):

La Chanze (she was the voice of Terpsichore the Muse of Dance, the frizzy-haired Muse in the short skirt)

Roz Ryan (she was the voice of Thalia the Muse of Comedy, the short, comedic, Muse)

::gasp:: I love LaChanze! She was great in Ragtime (she took over Sarah at one point -- I believe she was the second replacement.)

Then your dad should know that Anastasia IS a movie, and not a Disney one either. And that "official" list has been floating around forever. It's a long trip from the list to the stage, and the good lord willing, Disney will opt to place all those shows in theme parks.

Not to mention.. TARZAN was missing from that list.. which would be ahead of Aladdin, and perhaps some of the others as well..

My personal choice would of course be The Nightmare Before Christmas. Of course, that is only if they cast Danny Elfman as Jack and use the original score from the film. Perhaps Tim Burton directing too? Just a thought.

Speaking of which.... I believe that there was a NY reading for "Tarzan" recently. Adam Pascal was there, along with a list of others.

Matt Morrison played Tarzan in the reading, with NINE's pint-sized William Ullrich providing Young Tarzan.

How would Little Mermaid work? How Lion King works!

I'd want BATB to go.

Tarzan, Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins are all in the works. Of the three, I would want Poppins, then Mermaid, and Tarzan can stay animated.

Anastasia should come, as I said before.

If Hercules went on stage, it would bore the audience to death. It was great as a movie but if you bring it to a stage, Zzzzz.

Disney away from the theatre? Why so? It revived it, so to speak. Many people I know loved Lion King and when it went to Broadway, it brought hundreds of people in to see their favorite movie on stage. This sparked the interest of theatre in several of these people, because of Disney. And their shows are great, especially the original show, AIDA.

That's my twelve cents.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Mary Poppins is at the top of my wish list too........with (of course) Ruthie Henshall as Mary. But I'll settle for just the show if I have to.
