So many inaccuracies on this post!
1. The episode was NOT about SWEENEY TODD.
2. Andy (the character in THE OFFICE) did NOT 'put on the show' -- he was simply playing Anthony in a community theatre production of SWEENEY TODD (hence the SWEENEY TODD moments in the episode).
Geez... this is how inaccurate info gets spread.

The episode was most definitely about Sweeney Todd. The ENTIRE EPISODE revolved around the cast attending a production of Sweeney Todd.
I LOVED that all the characters of the show were present, that the "full show" was performed, and that we saw actual scenes. Clearly the writers over at the show are huge musical theatre geeks.

Steve Carell is a self admited musical theatre geek.
In Forty Year Old Virgin his character gets up to sing kareoke and sings "Life Is " from Zorba. Th writers had picked "some esoteric weird song" but the bigger joke was Steve already knew the song!
Oh and don't forget the "Aquarious" finale in Virgin.
Serious musical geekdom and another reason to love Carrell!
