I was among many cursing, angry Sweeny fans sitting around me. This was my first year at the Tonys and the ridiculous selections in nearly every major category made it so much less fun than it should have been.

I think a LOT of people on this board need a pill of some sort...preferably a chill pill. At any rate, I've posted to a few of these threads and let me just say...NOBODY WAS ROBBED. The fact that all the nominees got to represent their respective shows by performing is proof enough.

It isn't ONE person who chooses which people/shows win and which don't. It's a voting committee. As we all know, different people have different opinions. Nobody bought any awards. If that was true, wouldn't Disney (one of the richest corporations in the world) have "bought" nominations and awards for TARZAN? Or for any of its musicals in previous years for that matter (AIDA and LION KING obviously are exceptions)?

Wouldn't it be a little more respectful to keep comments like "so-and-so sucks" off this group? What are we, five? Let's just be happy that the Tonys go on, year after year, and that live theatre on Broadway (and all over the world) hasn't died out!

Life's too short to complain and moan about the disappointments (jeez, now I sound like a therapist or inspirational speaker). We need to focus our energy on the POSITIVE elements of the Tonys (gotta love Christine Ebersole's comments on the "Republican puppet"!)...

And, oh my goodness, did anyone else notice how incredibly hot Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper were? And JULIE ANDREWS is a goddess!!! Sorry, teeny-bopper-like ranting from an "old guy."

i was disappointed for manoel and jim dale, even christian seemed genuinely suprised that his name got called.

i secretly was hoping the wedding singer would either take home the award for music or choreography

I really would have like Jim Dale to win, but I would have been just as happy with Manoel.

I was so damn convinced that Sweeney was going to win.
Then, I was soooooooooo shocked when it didn't.

I'm friends with many Sondheim fans... fans doesn't even cover it... well, let's just say they consider Sondheim their God. And there was definite screaming at the television, while most of us sat there with our mouthes gaping open.

Granted I don't agree with alot of winnings last night (i.e.- Pajama Game and Jersey Boys) but it's not going to stop me from going to see shows like Sweeney and Drowsy Chaperone...I just wish they got the credit that they deserved.
