WHY DIDN'T SWEENEY WIN BEST REVIVAL?!?!?!?! WHY DIDN'T THE DROWSY CHAPERONE WIN BEST MUSICAL!!!?!?!?! I MEAN JERSEY BOYS IS NOT EVEN A MUSICAL!!!!!! IT'S A PLAY WITH MUSIC!!!!! WHO ARE THESE S.O.B. VOTERS?!?!?!?!? IT'S 2004 ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!! I GOTTA WHOLE LOTTA RECOUNT DEMANDIN' TA DO!!!!!! YA CAN'T BELIEVE HOW &$%^IN' ANGRY I AM RIGHT NOW!!!!!

IT'S ALSO 2002 ALL OVER AGAIN!!! HOW COULD THE DROWSY CHAPERONE WIN BEST BOOK AND BEST SCORE BUT NOT BEST MUSICAL??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THAT JUST DOES NOT MAKE %$#@IN' SENSE!!!! Nope. Can't go there with you. It was an awards show, complete with its ups and downs. The thrills outweigh the upsets.

Jaso, it's not the first time that the show that won best book didn't win best musical (i.e., Ragtime).

To put things in perspective I tell myself whether or not my favorite won any awards doesn't take away from my overall enjoyment of that particular show. Am I disappointed at some of the outcomes, yes, but it's not worth losing sleep over.

I really hate the fact the Sweeney did not get best revival.I have no problems with Jersey Boys. The show is really great. The are a lot of things to be considered in judging this category (Best Musical) besides the book and the lyrics. Congrats JERESY BOYS!

I'm glad La Chanze won.
I'm glad Jersey Boys won.

I wish John Lloyd Young didn't win.
I wish Beth Leavel didn't win.
I wish Frances La Tour didn't win.

if jersey boys is a play with music then all musicals are a play with music. just because a show isn't completely original or is a "jukebox musical" doesn't discredit it from being good and it shouldn't be shot down for winning a well-deserved award.

Though I wish some things had turned out differently, I'm glad the Tonys spread the wealth around--unlike the year "The Producers" took every award. Though the only nominated shows I saw were "Sweeney" and "Rabbit Hole," I really feel those who won were deserving. Though I haven't seen it, I don't know if it's fair to call "Jersey Boys" a jukebox muscial. Mabye musical tribute or musical bio, more along the lines of "Love, Janis" or "Lost Highway." "Jersey Boys" is more a musical than "Contact" was. I was very glad that Cynthia Nixon won and I wish "Sweeney" had won more. I guess the thing to remember is that any award show is like comparing apples to oranges. Each nominee is good in their own right and we always want our favorite to win. I'm just happy that Broadway is alive and well and that people care about live theatre at all *get's off soapbox*.

Drowsy should've won (as well as Sweeney), but I'm not so upset.
At least the one that lost the 2003 Tonys deserved to lose.

I agree, I was there last night and I thought that The Wedding Singer would atleast win one. AND OMG it was pretty boring during breaks since there was no host! There will be one next year probably...

And Who beats Sutton Foster I mean come on! That was just unbelievable BUT I had fun so yeah =)

I completely agree with the first post. Sweeney, Drowsy Chaperone, LuPone...all should have won. I'm extremely upset about Jersey Boys mostly due to the fact that this was the first jukebox musical to win the Best Musical Tony. I can't stand the thought of a jukebox winning this huge Tony honor- it only encourages all those people to write more!! AHH!!!

Yes, I know some people will argue and will debate with me on the importance of jukebox musicals or their role in the Broadway Theatre scene, but jukebox musicals have become an excuse to highlight the lives of pop-stars and legends- shows that should be in Las Vegas, not New York.

i was alternately bored and embarrassed overall. things i didn't like won many things but the only thing i took to heart was frances de la tour receiving best featured actress over jayne howdyshell. de la tour is quite a wonderful actress and an institution in britain. this was howdyshell's one moment in the sun during a long career doing character roles in regional theater and i would like to see a journeyman american actor rewarded.
i am personally enjoying how bad michael reidel looks today. but it's the same every year.

I was so upset last night I just logged off, turned off the Tv and took a sleeping pill.
I was hoping it waas all a bad dream.
It reminded me of when Bush won the 2nd election. I just can't belive it really went down like that!
