There's a lot of hatin' on this show that a majority of the posters have not seen. So. Let me clear some things up.

Is it a Wildhorn show? Yes. Is it Sondheim or Shakespeare? No. It is Wildhorn. The stories are fun and meant to be accessible to crowds of people. The songs are catchy. Are they art? ABSOLUTELY not. They are fun catchy and ENTERTAINING pop songs. And FURTHERMORE they are ORIGINAL songs.

Everyone on this board huffs and puffs at Jukebox Musicals and musicals based on movies and while it is based on source material, it is still an original musical.

I saw this show when I was in Florida and I have to say. It is the most fun I have had a show in a long time. The costumes are great, the sets are colorful and whimsical and the performances are tremendous. And I'll be damned if all of the posters on Broadwayworld don't listen to Wildhorn's music as a guilty pleasure! Karen Mason was freakin' amazing and Janet Dacal's belt is WOW.

I went to a talk-back after one of the shows and the creators/producers said they were going to be reworking this show up until the day they open on Broadway. I was so relieved to hear they weren't going to just present what they had.

I really hope when this show comes to Broadway tons of people go to see it. It really is a tremendous show! Don't go to it expecting Shakespeare...I guarantee you'll be dissappointed. GO see it and you'll have tons of fun and an enjoyable night!!

Let's keep it positive and open/minded on this thread!

Bitch, please. This doesn't even start previews for six months. As you say, the show has been heavilly reworked from its out of town tryouts, so nobody here even knows what its going to resemble when it finally opens, let alone be able to appreciate it 'now.'

How about changing this to the NEW BROADWAY MUSICAL ANTICIPATION APPRECIATION.

I agree at least its nice to have ANY new musical attempting to make a go on Broadway.

"Bitch, please. This doesn't even start previews for six months."

You're right it hasn't started previews and won't for six months and yet the majority of people on this board have found something negative to say about it without having seen it. I agree maybe I should change the title of this thread. Having SEEN this show I think it deserves more positivity than its receiving.

Michael Bennet saying "Bitch, please" made me laugh my ass off. I needed a good laugh this morning.

Hey instead of giving someone a chance to bring an original musical in we can just bitch and moan and tear it apart
and wait for the 100th revival of Gypsy to come back

GIVE IT A CHANCE GUYS ..I love when people are critics
and they havent even seen it!!

Nice thread. It has undergone a LOT of changes. The story is very different from what I've been hearing...

LOL @ bryan.

This will undeniably get an Addams Family-esque crowd, and Wildhorn has legions of fans who refuse to post on this board or make it public on here. People actually believe this show won't last through the Tony Awards even, but I can guarantee it will.

As bad as Dracula was that still lasted for four months. A good run? Haha no, but for what was presented? Yes.

Isn't it going back to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center for another out-of-town-tryout?

It's more like a run through for only two weeks in January, and also so all the people who worked on it in Tampa can see the "final" product I suppose.

It will be heading to Broadway, not sure if it's getting re-reviewed by critics in Tampa or not.

Did Michael Bennett just say "Bitch, please" or has his account been hacked?

....but the world goes 'round

I really hope I can make the trip to see this in Tampa. Was supposed to go last year...didn't work out exactly. I'm thoroughly excited for this show, and cannot wait to see it on Broadway in June 2011 :)
