I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I would have preferred the musical to try to be a bit more original.

Don't take me for someone who's only interested in carbon copies...because I'm not. Believe me, if they presented THE WEDDING SINGER with the exact same script and used all the songs from the movie I wouldn't have gone back as many times as I did.

Significant plot changes were made. Some locations were moved. Some characters were removed and some had their parts increased. But, if I were presenting a musical based on a movie I wouldn't want to create something completely new and different because that defeats the purpose of BASING it on a previous work. I think THE WEDDING SINGER does an amazing job of being both original and loyal to the previous work.

Thanks, FOAnatic. I agree 100%. It's a great musical to treasure and what talent the writer's had! Some were able to see it. I feel badly for those who needlessly categorized it as another animal altogether. At least we have the OCA to prove that we were right . . . .
