As someone who's seen it 26 times, I must agree, it ain't tragic. :)
Hahah D2. Oh imagine all the teenage Holly's and George's.
This thread is tasteless.
Is that supposed to be bad?

hey, i liked wedding singer
I loved Wedding Singer, and I'm disappointed it's closing. However, I will live.
I adore the show. It's sad that it's closing, but I am grateful there was warning.
My life will go on.
i just dont see the point of this thread. no, its not the most tragic thing, no show closing is. everyone is going to be upset when one of their favorite shows closes, and there will always be people who are glad the show is gone, but in eihter case, life does go on.
It was a fun show and it had a good run. Congratulations to all the performers and hope they will be back soon (except Mr. AI).
Just imagine the chaos the week Wicked closes, however far away that might be.
anyone going tomorrow?
from what I've seen in the other threads, half the freaking board is going

I truly love this show, but hey, it closes, and so do plenty of other things. It's a shame, but I'm sure I'll find fluff love in another musical eventually.
i guess i dont understand how it was a wannabe hairspray?
last i checked hairspray was pretty damned hokey.
and its not mint, its DEFINITELY chocolate/caramel tasting. only it went sour.
wedding singer wasn't half of what hairspray is! i felt that wedding singer was geared only for people who truly lived through the 80s, whereas hairspray was not geare onl for people who truly lived through the 60s......there will be other unmemorable musicals like wedding singer where you can already figure out the plot 5 minutes into it. never fear.

I personally loved the show but I agree with this thread. I personally feel it's a shame but I'm not sitting around writing out a eulogy or anything.
As they say in Sunday in the Park With George:
I have to move oooooooooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh, there's some more spice.
As Fergie would say...
T-t-t-t-t-t-t-ASTY-TASTY
I'm sorry, I had to do it.

To be quite honest, I kept forgetting it was still open. Now that its actually closed, I'm going so terribly confused. But that's about all the remorse I can feel for this show. Here's hopeing the cast and creative team moves on to something more accepted.

singingshowgirl: Not really, the problem with The Wedding Singer is that they essentially just copied the movie's soundtrack and threw in a few ballad numbers.
they essentially just copied the movie's soundtrack
What were you smoking when you saw it?
"It's Your Wedding Day" sounds NOTHING like "You Spin Me Round."
The only similarities are "George's Prayer" for "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" and "Move That Thang" for "Hip Hop."
I would hardly call that COPYING the soundtrack.

I didn't mean that the songs sound alike, I mean that they just basically chose the same premise for all of the songs. If you substituted the movie soundtrack for the musical or vice versa, you'd pretty much have the same thing (although they moved a few songs around and, like I said, added a few things.)
There are plenty of more similarities, too... "Casualty of Love" for "Love Stinks," "All About the Green" for "Money," "Today You Are a Man" for whatever that Hebrew song Adam Sandler sings at the kid's Bar Mitzvah, etc. I mean, heck, they even used "Somebody Kill Me Please" and "Grow Old With You."
When people go to see a musical based on a movie...they expect to see generally the same story with new music.
THE WEDDING SINGER movie is constructed so well that the spots for musical numbers were basically already plotted out. In order to maintain the same character progression the songs in the musical needed to be similar to the music in the movie. It takes place in the 80s and they were going for an 80s sound. And I would have to say the score to THE WEDDING SINGER celebrates the themes from the movie while creating a brand new identity for itself.

I am actually happy it's closing- just because I am sick of hearing about it here.

FOA - I really like what you just posted and I totally agree!
I love the show no doubt about that but this is the reality of Broadway. I am upset that it's leaving Broadway but it's waht happens to shows. I enjoyed the show very much and I have my opinion and respect others. I will miss the show but I understand that it wasn't making money and it is smarter to close the show then let it suffer!

I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I would have preferred the musical to try to be a bit more original.
