I WANT TO GO.
I might just get there this year!
Grrrrrr.....A curse on both your houses.
Spider, I thought that you were rowing down here!
I'll keep a light on the porch for you.
Speaking about Anthony Warlow in the SECRET GARDEN thread made me want to find this one. Now, I have sent people the link to his website and I am anxiously awaiting what they think.
Oh Spider, it's been so long. We're waiting for you. Remember, Anthony in Melbourne in May.
I want to go so bad. I went to his website and sent a message to him asking if it will be recorded. I want to hear it/see it SO BAD!!!
Seeing him in concert in May!!!!!!!!! So very very excited....
*drools*
I actually read one interveiw that quoted him as saying he would come onto broadway/west end if the right opportunity with the right show presented itself. What the right show is, i dunno. Sure as hell isn't Jekyll and Hyde. He has refused to perform the role on stage, having seen the show in germany and hating it.
I really want to see him become a success on broadway. Not that i'll be able to sdee him in anything, i just wanna.
I was under the impression that he disliked the Broadway production, not the German one.
(The German one, incidentally, is closer to the version he recorded.)
I'm positive he saw it in Germany. I don't think he saw it on broadway.
But from what i've heard of the broadway production(s), it was completely awful

My understanding is that HMS Pinafore/Trial By Jury will be recorded, as it is an original production for Opera Australia. So hopefully the video/DVD won't take too long to get on the shelves.
Also, he's doing a couple of concerts with Leslie Garrett in April. http://www.themagicofthemusic.com.au/
And because I'm suicidal, I've heard him sing snippets of real opera, and it's absolute heaven. If you thought his voice was powerful as it is...

Years ago, I think either right before or right after the release of MIDNIGHT DREAMING, he spoke about wanting to put out an album of him singing all opera stuff. What he finally released was FACE THE MUSIC, which is gorgeous, but still... I wonder why the other album never happened.
Just got home and this excites me! I saw him in Secret Garden and yes...it was all you could dream it would be.
Anyone wanting to stage a Warlow hunt can come stay with me!

I adore Anthony Warlow, in almost everything he has done (almost being, even with his vocal prowess, I still cannot sit through "The Secret Garden").
He is the man.
I am a big Warlow fan. My friend moved to Australia for a while and I was overjoyed to recieve in the mail Anthony's 'Face the Music' CD autographed! One of the coolest gifts I've ever recieved.
I wouldn't quite call him a vocal god, however. When he hits lower notes and tries to effect a very dark tone to his voice his vibratto sounds out of control. Listen to his recording of 'Fate' on his website for an example of this.
I can't wait to hear the recording of his Pinafore... I've been learning the Captain's aria 'Fair Moon, to thee I sing' with my voice teacher and to hear Anthony sing it would be incredible.
GASP!!! Are they recording Pinafore? And anthing less than "Vocal God" is unexceptable in this thread when discussing Warlow.
Because Pinafore and Trial By Jury are original Opera Australia productions, they will probably be recorded, possibly on video as well (!)
OMG.....will you please keep me/us informed about this? I will order it as soon as it is available. YAY!!
Where can i hear him singing real opera?????!!!!!!
I haven't bumped this post since the beginning of 2005? What is wrong with me?
BUMP for the VOCAL GOD

Anthony, in my opinion, is the greatest Broadway baritone of present times. Anthony was sort of my model for vocal training. He was classically trained and uses that training to sing many styles of music. I am also a classically trained Baritone who uses it to sing musical theatre. I also own pretty much all of his recordings. The only two I don't have are the ones that just came out recently. Of course....all you have to do to know I am a fan of Warlow's is to look at my avatar!
Also, here is quote from his website.
"I am currently working on an album of British folk songs and ballads to be released in the new year. "
So, sometime this year there will be another recording. YAY!!!!
I think it has already been released...isn't that the "Tenor and Baritone" album?
Here is the description from Amazon:
"Australian Import CD! Anthony Warlow (baritone) is joined on this musical voyage of Victorian & Edwardian ballads and duets by acclaimed Australian Tenor, David Hobson! Featuring David McSkimming on piano."
