Let the sunshine...Let the sunshine in....The sunshine in!
It's about time! I cant believe no one wanted to start one? A very fitting word...

An incredible show in every respect.
I hope it comes to Broadway.
Loved, loved, loved it.
I hope it transfers for my own selfish reasons.
BLACK, WHITE, YELLOW, RED
COPULATE IN A KING-SIZE BED!!
Hair on Broadway is all I really need to complete my life. Too bad they can't just let it play in the park forever...it was meant to be performed outside.
I think I've spread enough love in other threads, so to quote the last word of (almost) every "tribe" member's Playbill blurb:
Love.
I will try to update and put more info on the thread such as location of the Delacorte and how to get tickets....etc....
Three more sleep and I will be a member of the "tribe"!
Peace!

jaystarr, I don't want to seem like a jerk (and I DO love this particular production,) but how can you start a love thread for a show you've yet to see?
I'll be seeing the show again Friday!
LOVE.
Oh, and just an update on the state of the line these days: the last person on line today to even get a voucher (to come back and try for cancellation tickets) arrived at about 7:30am. I got there at 8:00am during previews and was in a good position to get a ticket; the people that got there at 8:00am today were more than twice as far from the theater as I had been, and obviously none of them got tickets. Just so y'all know.

This production is near perfect.
If the line is getting to be that bad, what time have people been lining up for cancellations?

I got there tonight at 6pm and was about the 310th person in the cancellation line. They let about 100 in. Seems like that line is starting to form earlier and earlier each day, with no guarantees either.
I just recently obtained the 1967 Off-Broadway Cast Recording and can NOT stop listening to it. Its rawness makes it sensational.
Having grown-up listening to the Original Broadway Cast Recording (even the expanded CD edition with the bonus tracks) as well as the delicious film soundtrack for Milos Forman's film adaptation, this 1967 Off-Broadway Cast Recording makes it all sound fresh again.
Jill O'Hara. Those goddamn pipes. A voice that could be heard for miles. Wow!
The 1967 Off Broadway Cast Recording is my favorite of all the HAIR recordings because it was the first.
I wonder why The Public opted to use the Broadway libretto for their 40th Anniversary production as opposed to the Off-Broadway libretto which would have been more appropriate since that is the version that played The Public in 1967.
Still it's an energetic and very entertaining production.
Beads, Flowers, Freedom and Happiness!
Yay! Two more sleep! This show holds a special place in my heart- The year I was born-the original production was still playing on Broadway! So I guess..one of those hippies could be very well my parents and I was born during THE AGE OF AQUARIUS! The year I was born "1776" won the Tonys for Best Musical. Hair, 1776, Promises, Promises and Zorba was nominated as Best Musicals!~and I wanted to see all these musicals revived on Broadway ( I already saw 1776 in 1999) Yuck! I'm old! Yeah-Born in the Age of Aquarius and Year of the Rooster (in Chinese Astrology) plus a very funny number! and for the record.. I will always be 35 yrs old!~it stops there! lol!

J- I don't mean any disrespect, but what if you don't end up loving this production of Hair? I mean, I don't think that's possible, but you seem pretty convinced that you will love it no matter what.
Actually I love the score and I saw the movie and love it too! I like ROCK MUSICALS - something like RENT, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, GODSPELL (if that's rock) and of course PASSING STRANGE!
Yeah , youre right! I dont know IF I would like the show as of now! Hopefully... I will like it! I thought I would love SPRING AWAKENING~but after I saw it - I did not like it! same with XANADU - i thought I would not like it but I love it.
Well- this thread is about the show, informations since there's too many threads asking about how to get tickets or the line that keeps popping up-i thought we put it in one thread! keep it organize!
We also have a Shrek thread that has not open on Broadway yet! I hope I am not being questioned? of starting the thread bec. its me!..If any other guy would have started this thread- I truly believe he or she wont be questioned? I hope so...You guys know that I dont like to clog this main board with soo many threads- I am just trying to organize it. There were even instance that I would post..who would like to start a thread about costume design? trust me..I dont wanna monopolize the board! I have contribute a lot to the board, most of the time from threads that I did not start!
I have learned my lessons very well last year that it could back fire like what happened to the XANADU threads! lol! One thing: I love HISTORY and I always try to learn from it! This thread is for people who love the show and information about the show! I think any posters who want to contribute can start a thread! I never say this is the BEST SHOW on Broadway~I just started a thread for people whove seen it and love the show! and I dont see anything wrong about being overexcited to see the show!
Oh..dont worry.. no offense on me..I am just explaining my side.
PEACE AND LOVE.

Thanks for clarifying. As I said, I meant no disrespect. I just knew that you hadn't seen the show yet, so that's why I asked. I certainly understand loving the score, and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself on Saturday. I'll be interested to hear what you think.
Can someone help me? I can't find any info online about the cancellation line. What time does it start? and how early should I get there if I want to go tomorrow? And with more people (probably 4).
This thread will be able to help you..regarding cancellation line:

Thanks! And where exactly does the cancellation line start?
The thought of spending another half day sitting on the ground in the park answering stupid tourists' questions about what the hell we're waiting in line for does not appeal to me at all!

Are you referring to last summer's concert version or this summer's revival? Either way, they most likely didn't use the 1967 version because it was such a different show. Can you imagine waiting on line for a production of Hair only to arrive and have the show start with something other than "Aquarius"? Without songs like "The Flesh Failures" and "3-5-0-0"? Oof, that's almost a sin.
(In any case, I read that the revival book is not even the straight-up Broadway libretto but rather a "custom-made" version cobbled together by Rado and Paulus from the pieces that worked best from each of the librettos before, during, and after Broadway. But yeah, it seems closest to Broadway.)
I love listening to the 1967 recording because it's a fun (and significant) artifact, and because it includes that terrific "Dead End". But nothing beats Broadway for me. The Off-Broadway band was far inferior to the band at the Biltmore--MacDermot has mentioned this several times. The score in 1967 was thrillingly raw, certainly, but it wasn't yet the way it was meant to be heard.
While we're talking favorite Hair recordings, one of my favorites is "DisinHAIRited", a collection of songs that were cut from the Broadway production (plus new versions of a couple that made it, like "Going Down" and "Electric Blues", and songs that have found their way back into this year's revival, like "Stone Age" and "Oh Great God of Power"). It was recorded in 1969 with selected members of current and past Hair tribes, including Ragni and Rado. It's long out of print and LPs are on eBay, but there is a site where all the songs are available to listen to and download... (Not sure I can post the link. PM me if you're interested.)

Yeah, Rado's been revising the script near constantly for a really long time. Tams-Witmark finally published a script in 1995 for stock/amateur licensees and reportedly stopped accepting anything from him. As Jim puts it, "One big mistake happening with regard to the show is that Tams-Witmark is not giving out the superior revised version of the script." The only problem is that he doesn't stick to one "superior revised version" for very long. Every time you turn around, there's something new. So much musical material was added in the last few revisions that it wasn't even funny.
Apparently, though, after the success of the Public production, he's finally stopped constantly reworking the script because this is the version he's most satisfied with. For now, anyway...
