During the 1989 telecast What comedian took a swipe at the infamous Rob Lowe-Snow White song and dance number from the 1989 Academy Awards show with this line: "Everybody get in line for the Mother Goose dance. I'm sorry, I thought this was the Oscars!"

I believe he complained about not winning for Starlight Express as he was picking up his award for Phantom.

Who was nominated for the Best Actress in a Musical Tony for a show that had yet to open on Broadway?

Thanks for the correction, wickedfan!

Actually OtherDaryl, Napier complained that his set design for STARLIGHT EXPRESS was not nominated for a Tony...while picking up his award for his set designs for LES MISERABLES! FROM THE SAME YEAR!!! Heck, the man had won TWO awards that night! Talk about sour grapes!

Right idea, wrong show . . . oops! I do remember Napier wasn't terribly gracious.

Anybody got the famous film star who was nominated for Best Actress in a musical before the show opened yet?

Well, I did't mean to stop this thing dead in it's tracks - I was referring to Debbie Reynolds in Irene.

Let's try this -

What Tony winning director/choreographer was nominated, but never won in the Best Actor in a Musical category?

When were the 1973 Tony nominations made? Back then the Tonys were usually awarded in April. IRENE opened March 13.

Just curious if you know the details behind this.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
