I do agree that the direction of musicals is headed in a sort dull, monotonous manner, but I haven't seen Webber trying to do anything to change that.

Sure he may have chosen some interesting subject material, but it never really WORKS! He writes some nice melodies, but I'll be damned if we don't hear that melody 7 other times during the score.

I don't think the last 25 minutes of Evita is particularly new or inventive. 25 minutes of resprises of songs that we've heard before?

And just because his shows have been produced world wide doesn't make me think they're any more intersting.

I'm an avid fan of musical theatre, and I too, deserve to have my opinion be known and heard. Congratulations, he has the longest two running shows on Broadway, that I found boring, and stale. Does that mean my opinion doesn't count?

Yes, I agree with him, but he's certainly doing a lot of talking for a man who hasn't added something new to the theatre since the 1970's.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

talking about stale material, ppl should go and watch Kenwright's production of Whistle Down The Wind which is cheap and in the Palace just for a limited season so that they can rip more ppl off before Spamalot comes in!

"He writes some nice melodies, but I'll be damned if we don't hear that melody 7 other times during the score".

Anything wrong with hearing the same melody about 7 times? I love that about musical theatre, If you listen to "Rent" they repeat the melodies many times and i love it just the way it is.

"Yes, I agree with him, but he's certainly doing a lot of talking for a man who hasn't added something new to the theatre since the 1970's".

Have you seen all his musicals since the 70's to be so judgemental? Obviously you haven't seen Bombay Dreams, which is the 1st Indian musical ever to be on Broadway, totally groundbreaking and different from anything that Broadway has ever seen. I haven't seen all his shows since the 70's, but that is just one of the examples that come to mind.

But ALW's 'fears' are the same 'fears' that always bemoan the state of Broadway, and how it's the fabulous invalid.

And he's not really paying attention to other composers... Guettel, LaChiusa, Yazbeck, etc.

You're right, i think he was just talking about a lot of shows, not every single show.

"He just needs to be maimed or something. And I'm sorry if I offended anybody, but I just have this passionate hatred against him.

That's just pure derangement that cannot be justified on any level.

Some precedent: one does not like another's artistic sensibilities so the solution to the guy's work is to see him maimed or in any way the object of suffering.

I think I'll sleep with the lights on to night.
