We went to matinee today (october 7) and were disappointed overall. Positives: Gorgeous sets and effects, orchestra arrangements wonderful. Voices beautiful--Tiernan's (sp?) solos were powerful. I couldn't help it, but the woman who played the lead kept sounding like "Belle" or "Arial" but certainly very talented. Score is definitely not the kind one walks out humming....or would even recognize the next day after seeing it once. I didn't expect it to be a toe-tapper by any meaNet, ns, but it didn't bring out any strong emotions in the audience. Choreography was nice, but not as creative or unique or energetic compared to what Riverdance was like, and this was talked up a lot in the press. (Very few choreography numbers, but there were few scenes where they would have made sense given the plot line and overall tone of the musical.) Very slow pacing, overall too long. Actually saw several people nodding off around us...at a matinee! Plot a little hard to follow at first with abrubt introduction of Queen, marriage, etc. Score kept giving impression that father was dead since he passed on position of chieften to daughter, but he was actually ??? until he did die. Net, if a friend asked if the should pay $80 for a ticket, I would not recommend it.

I saw it this weekend and was completely blown away. The music, costumes, set, performances, all top notch! Definitely still a work in progress, but even so, it was one of the best pieces of musical theatre I've ever seen.

Saw the world premiere on Oct. 3rd in the last fuggin row of the balcony... :] It was worth it. It is a gorgeous work and it's going to become a well-oiled machine by the time it hits New York, I'm sure of it. There were some diction problems and the fight sequences were slow, but that day was not only their world premiere, it was the third full run through of the show for the cast and crew ever. :x So. All things considered, yeah, it's going to be a blast.

I'm going the day after Thanksgiving, too! I was planning on going to see Spelling Bee again, but Pirate Queen bumped it until after Christmas.

I know they have tickets at Hot Tixx for some performances...and it shouldn't be TOO hard since it got such crappy reviews...>

It's so not sold out. From what I've seen there's always something available. The quality of the seat is debatable, but what are you going to do. It's worth it, I promise.
Just saw it again last night, and GOD it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. So much better, stronger, smoother than the beginning... I'm so proud of them and so excited.
Also note: Kathy Voytko is Steph's standby; she went on for the first time last night and kicked way more you know what than any other standby I've ever seen before in my life. If you 'get stuck with' her or something to that effect, fear not, loyal pirate fans, all is well. She is really excellent.

I haven't heard anything specificall of or from Stephanie, but when I talked to Kathy she said that she found out she would be going on that night at 5 pm. This leads me to think that Steph might've been a little sick and trying to gage whether or not she could do it, and then at the last possible minute decided not to risk it or whatever. : Maybe Castcom will have something to say about it. I hope Kathy gets on for a few words about how she feels being the first standby, etc. etc. She really was fantastic.

Has anyone gone to the Stage Door after the show? I am going the Saturday after Thanksgiving for the matinee and I would love to catch some of the cast... has anyone had any luck? Any suggestions are great!

They move pretty fast, but if you're cheerful and outgoing it's easy to catch a conversation with any of them. Just be sure that you recognize who is who; like I said, they move fast and unless you're positive who they are and stop them yourself they won't wait around long. :)
