Yeah, that did cross my mind. Too bad.

I went to the show on Saturday night and it was unfortunately somewhat underwhelming. First of all, none of the cast could really sing well except for Beach and Bart. It made most of the songs seem pretty thin. There were also a lot of tech and mic issues so at two different points in the show the audience was forced to wait a very long time for either Ferguson or Kind to come out. Each time when the actors finally did come out the joke was the same, "Traffic is miserable." Act II felt really underrehearsed which came across as both rushed and uncomfortable in most cases with awkward transitions between scenes, especially between Leo and Ulla deciding to go to Rio and transitioning straight into the courtroom. For those who know the show, Betrayed was greatly missed. I also would have liked to see Where Did We Go Right and It's Bad Luck to Say Good Luck kept in because they provide comic relief in Act II, which actually verged on being boring in this production. I understand the time constraint, but it left Act II noticeably weak. Leaving Bart and Beach out, Dane Cook was the obvious standout. Each of his songs were great with a lot of energy, which was refreshing.

That all being said, the night still held one of the funniest moments of live theatre I've seen in a long time. At the start of Keep It Gay, Beach says the opening line, "shows should be more pretty. shows should be more witty. shows should be more, what's the word?" Then a random audience member yells out "GAY!!!" At that the cast starts to laugh onstage with Kind giving a shrug to the audience. After a moment, Beach turns to the audience and finishes the joke, "Exactly." It got a huge applause from the audience and was hysterical.

I love The Producers and I love seeing the broadway shows at the Hollywood Bowl. They're attempt was decent, but I enjoyed some of the other productions more than this one. Still excited to see what they stage next year!

Eric Stonestreet has posted two videos ("I Wanna Be a Producer" and "Till Him"). Someone else posted the first section of "Springtime for Hitler" and Mel Brooks' closing speech.

*Side note: Ferguson accidentally calls Mr. Marks "Mr. Bialystock." Oops!

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

She is charming.

One of the most charming people I've ever met.

Charming and normal. There is nothing showy or fake about her.

Modern Family star to the rescue! Eric Stonestreet has uploaded a couple videos of Jesse's performance. Still none of Dane Cook, though.
