re: The Public Sings

cool.

I almost did "Sometimes" and "Lonesome of the Road" for BWW IDOL last week--but it would have been a cappella, and I wasn't happy with it like that.

It's a musical I would love to see revived with some updating. I think the Rentheads and Bareheads would really like it.

"He was fine. He looked scared to death and clutched on to Streep for dear life, but has a nice tone. He really looked like he just wanted it to be over ASAP."

Hahah, that sounds like him.

re: The Public Sings

Billy Porter always irks me. And last night, he was doing his best impression of Jennifer Holliday. I was kind of snickering to myself during his number.

re: The Public Sings

Porter, when vocally healthy (which he wasn't last night), can do some phemomenal things with his voice -- including a great impression of Jennifer Holliday. re: The Public Sings

I love that what one of you says was the highlight - another says was the worst moment.

Anyway, I would have done anything to see La Kitt sing "When It Ends." Just about ANYTHING.

"I love that what one of you says was the highlight - another says was the worst moment."

Which makes me think it was a pretty good evening for most people... soemething for everybody.

I enjoyed almost ALL of it. Though I will admit to being bored with Cynthia Nixon and sad for Billy Porter's voice (I've heard him do better than that)

The rest of the evening I found highly enjoyable, even the little bloopers and snags - everything was handled with grace and everyone appeared to be having a very good time.
Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

Ah! I loved it! It certainly wasn't overly prepared but it was really spectacular! I'm so thankful I got to go!

re: The Public Sings

I would have given anything to see Donna Murphy singing live again, she's such a brilliant performer. I wonder if she was ever approached to be part of the Threepenny Opera revival.
Oh, and Cheyenne Jackson is sexy, but there's an scarcity of tops, one would hope Jackson would change that...guess not, very disappointing.
So I take it Cynthia Nixon and Natalie Portman weren't anything special? No chances of them being in any musical soon?

re: The Public Sings

Thanks for the reviews. I wish I could have made it. Fortunately I did get to catch See What I Wanna See before it closed. Both Idina and Mary were outstanding... I cannot wait for the cast recording to come out.

re: The Public Sings

I would give quite a bit to see Donna Murphy's 'Pirate Jenny' and Meryl Streep's 'Sodomy'!

re: The Public Sings

Okay, pretty careless of me but by the time I got home from the concert, I still had my big program intact but the inserts had fallen out somewhere along the way. The inserts had the list of all the performers, and I really want to look back at all the names of everyone who was performing there...if it wouldn't be too much trouble for anyone to type it up and PM it to me, I'd greatly appreciate it re: The Public Sings

re: The Public Sings

I had a blast!! Nearly all of the performances were flawless.
I just have one question. Did Donna Murphy skip the high C as a joke (was it scripted?) or was it just a mistake?
Whatever it was, she was amazing and very funny.
Her Three Penny Opera performance was incredible and I'm happy that she got so much stage time. I also was happy about seeing the performance from 'Drood'.

I heard that Meryl Streep was extremely nervous before and after performing. I think she did a GREAT job. Sodomy was hilarious, and the song at the end with Nicohls (sp?) was so cute.
