The Public's 13/14 Season

What a great season! So happy to see that brilliant production of Good Soul of Szechuan returning, as well as Fun Home and Arguendo. Color me excited.

Good Person? -- But yes, very exciting!

The Public's 13/14 Season

Ugh, yes, Good Person. I was in a production that used a translation that had it as Good Soul and have fallen into the habit of calling it that.

A new Jeanine Tesori musical? Count me in!

The Public's 13/14 Season

The "Fun Home" graphic novel is one of my favorite books ever. It was created by the gifted Alison Bechdel who did the "Dykes to Watch Out For" comic strip. Factor in Lisa Kron who wrote "Well," one of my favorite plays ever, and the music from the "Caroline, or Change" gal and well, count me in.

I saw "Arguendo" at the Under the Radar festival in January and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it. And this is coming from somebody who only lasted through act one of "The Select (The Sun Also Rises)."

Namo, I loved Arguendo, too! I was surprised at how really funny it was- I had expected it to be illuminating, which it was, but not hilarious. I didn't like The Select either, but loved loved Gatz.

I don't think you'll be disappointed in Fun Home, which really does a commendable job at adapting a graphic novel that does not lend itself to adaptation easily.

Have the public announced what they are going to do at the Delacorte theatre in the park this summer?

They announced it a while ago. Comedy of Errors and a new musical adaptation of Love's Labor's Lost.

If I may ask a stupid question, what was wrong with "Good Woman (of Szechuan)"?

Bad translation from the German?

The Public's 13/14 Season

Essentially, yes. The German title doesn't actually denotate gender.

Got it. Thanks, Kad. I knew German has neuter nouns, but I didn't realize it uses them for people.

The Public's 13/14 Season

The word in the German title is "mensch," which just means a person/human being. It is indeed a masculine noun. The initial translation, I suppose, decided that because the main character is female, it would make more sense.

Cheers Kad

Do you think there will be much interest in a musical version of 'Love's Labour's Lost?

The Public's 13/14 Season

Happy to see GOOD PERSON getting a second life. I know so many who were kicking themselves for missing it.

This is a damn good season. Nice to see Julie Hagerty get a starring vehicle.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali
