The Rosie bashing is so interesting to me...

I'm completely taken aback by the personal attacks thrown her way. Even if she is the most hideous person to ever walk the planet, the glee in which some people take in the possible failure of TABOO is repugnant. Their comments say more about them than they do about her.

There are people whose livelihoods depend upon this show. Why would you wish it to fail while it's still very much a work in progress? This attitude boggles my mind. I can't comprehend why someone would relish another person's failure. That kind of attitude always comes back to bite you in the ass.

Of course, it's easier to look up if you have the correct spelling. Try "schadenfreude."

And it's most definitely not a complementary statement to make about someone. "Oh they're just suffering from a case of schadenfreude". It's a sickness. I said it in my original post, I don't know Rosie personally and have never been any kind of fan so this isn't about *her*. I'm just truly shocked at how drastically the tides have turned. You all wanted someone *common*, like Rosie to become successful and now that she has, everyone's jealous. You wanted her to succeed, just not *too* much. It's the oldest and sickest showbiz phenomenon there is. Updated On: 11/3/03 at 03:04 PM

And, interestingly, people seemed to prefer Rosie-With-A-Secret to Out-Dyke-Rosie. Oh sure, we all rolled our eyes at the Tom Cruise thing, even tho she said from the beginning it wasn't a "sexual thing." I think the only difference between the then-Rosie and the now-Rosie is that she came out. People prefer their queers to be men who help straight couples look good for each other. They like their lesbians of the lipstick variety, and only then when they are performing for the porno cameras.

I understand what you're saying about work is work, but I cannot name a single person on any staff at that theatre whose livelihood actually depends on that show. If it weren't Taboo, it'd be another show, thank Heaven for the good times. That's actually a good thing because it means NY theatre is healthy & the company is talented & there's lots of work for all. Having said that, I would like nothing more in theatre right now than to see Rose O'Donnell knocked back a bit & shown some perspective. From everything I have ever heard or experienced first-hand, she needs it. She has an overinflated view of herself, someone hand me a pin.

An over-inflated view of oneself is a very, very, very unusual thing in showbiz, that's for sure.

lol! yes, indeed. how shall i say it, then? she is really irritating about it. very immature, w/ all of her storming around, actually SAYING, "Do you know who I am??" Yes, you're the person who's taking too long on the concession line, so please step aside & come back when you've made your decision. does that make sense? very only child-ish. oh, i'm tired, hard to be articulate at this time of day! sorry.

Well, I've come to the conclusion that all the Rosie bashing must be very odd for Boy George. He's usually the one being bashed, and accused of diva-like behaviour! He seems to have been relatively low key so far...Although he has written about his lateness for rehearsals, and the fact that he suspects they think he's a loose canon, in his UK newspaper column. Where are you guys reading this anti lesbian stuff related to Rosie. Admittedly, I've skipped most of the Taboo threads because theshow doesn't really interest me but from what I have been reading the comments about Rosie are based on her personality rather than her sexual orientation.

I've made some negative comments about her based on my own opinon of her which was in turn based on personal interactions.
Putting the show aside, if the woman has treated people badly and they do not like her based on that fact, what's the big deal? Not everyone is liked by everyone else.

I don't think Rosie bashing has anything to do with sexual prefernece or the war between the sexes. I think it has to do with her being a star. Would we bash Michael Leavitt or Margo Lion if they made the same statments Rosie has made?

I'll wait while everyone looks up what shows these people currently produce on Broadway.

No, we wouldn't because we have no idea who they are. We do know who Rosie is and that the problem, what she says is news and makes good copy.

thats the whole point! i have worked on 2 margo lion shows and while still a producer, god i hate them, she has never harangued the crew and belittled cast members and production staff openly. Her productions were very professional by broadway standards. Your point of whether we would bash her if she acted the same way as rosie is moot because she doesnt.
Rosie has acted in a totally unprofessional manner and has made a bungle of her own production because she refuses to accept that being a fan of theater does not make you an expert on how to put up a musical. Rather than trust the people she hired, she has made a mess of things and treated people horrendously in the process.

IF Rosie O'Donnell were a man, would she be working on the production, admit to it, laught it off, and then become governor of New York.

People get upset with shills who talk up a show, but what about people who simply talk down a show with remarks that have nothing to do with the quality of the production? Rosie's bad press didn't start with how she treated people working on TABOO. It started a while ago.

I certainly hope ticket buyers for the first preview didn't take her up on her offer to give them tickets to THE BOY FROM OZ. I can't imagine taking any kind of gift from such a horrible human being.

Okay..
Well I liked Rosie.
I liked her show. She gave so much money to charities. And if it was not her own money she made corporate america help out all kinds of people.
I found her silly and fun and touching and cool.
I am not on her payroll. I am not a shill. I enjoyed magazine and her craftiness.
I could not care if she was a lesbo or a Republo. I liked her. And I may not like Taboo or even might not see it, but I wish her the best.

I agree with you, Jon. I liked her talk show (the few times I did get to see it). I may never see TABOO either and I also wish her and the cast and the crew the best.

I am not a shrill on her payroll either.

Shill, dof....

Localeonecrew, it seems to me that Rosie has obviously wronged you in some way and you feel the need to vent about her here because you're *hoping* she reads this board. That being said, I'm going to play devil's advocate for a second in response to your whole comparison to Margo Lion and other producers.

"i have worked on 2 margo lion shows and while still a producer, god i hate them, she has never harangued the crew and belittled cast members and production staff openly. Her productions were very professional by broadway standards. Your point of whether we would bash her if she acted the same way as rosie is moot because she doesnt.

First of all, let me preface by saying that I don't know much about M.L. BUT... you're suggesting that as long as a producer is not "openly" bashing cast/crew, it's ok. That whatever Lion may or may not have done behind closed doors, however questionable and/or *unethical* was okay? Is it the fact that Rosie doesn't have a bunch of *henchman* running around doing the dirty work and yelling for her, that bothers you? Also, no one would care if someone like M.L. was causing havoc because she wasn't an A-list talk show host/sometime movie star/celebrity, before bringing her millions to the hallowed halls of B'way. I feel that if this was, in fact, any other producer, you wouldn't be going so far out of your way to post so negatively about them. SH*T happens and there are plenty of people who shouldn't be producing/directing/starring in major theatrical productions. Seldom have I seen it inspire so much venom in people. Btw, I think that people aren't laying the *blame* for the problems with this show, where it deserves to be. Chris Renshaw is a very untalented director and no one seems to want to point out this very obvious issue.

I'm with TX and Al. People have a right to whatever feelings an interpersonal interaction with somebody is like. My three with Rosie were great. Kathy Griffin told a HILARIOUS 20 minute story about her the last time I saw her stand-up act. No harridan-like behavior, and Griffin WOULD have spilled the dirt if she had any. Some people have good times with Rosie and some people do not. Fair enough.

But a lot of this visceral anger she inspires reminds me of another famous Roseanne, and no I don't mean Roseannadanna. I mean TVs Roseanne. She once famously said of herself and Tom Arnold that they were Hollywood's worst nightmare, "White trash with a lot of money."

I think a lot of this antipathy toward Rosie stems from that fact that she's a loud mouthed, brash working class chick with a lot of money. And it's still largely shocking that a woman that famous and that rich is brash and loud mouthed.

EXACTLY! If she were a man, it wouldn't ruffle even one feather and if she were a meek little thing, with said henchmen, same thing. It's her fat, loud, white, gay, MILLIONAIRE ass, that's got everyone in a tizzy.

Shill. I apologize, Al. I can’t help it if my fingers want to type shrill. Must be a previous life thing. It comes out without my even thinking about it.

Anyway, I don’t get what the fuss is all about. Rosie–gay. Rosie–straight. Her personal business. Period. End of story. IMHO.
