re: The Sound of Music

thanks for the info tag.
any idea what is coming?

re: The Sound of Music

Tag, did the show recoup in Toronto?
#28

re: The Sound of Music

No idea. I'd assume so. If I remember correctly I think the initial investment was $10m.

re: The Sound of Music

I actually think it was 12 million, and yes they did recoup a couple months ago!

re: The Sound of Music

Good for them! :) Thanks.

re: The Sound of Music

I think Mirvish was smart, if their thinking was to keep the show open long enough to recoup, then leave it for a few months for extra money.

re: The Sound of Music

That's how most commercial producers (if not all!) think. Because recouping and profit are the reason why they produce in the first place. re: The Sound of Music

I'm sure if the show COULD keep selling well, they'd keep it going and keep making more profit, but they're probably smart and see weak sales ahead.

re: The Sound of Music

Might go to tomorrow's matinee for rush tickets. It's just too bad that it's only 1 ticket per person so I have to go alone =( Excited though!

Edit:
I went for the matinee and I was blown away by the sets! There were amazing. Also, every time the little girl speak, everyone is always 'ooohhhiiinnngggg'. She was so cute!
There was also a technical problem (not sure if that's what you'll call it) but the show had to be stopped. The flag up on the ceiling fell but luckily didn't go all the way to the orchestra. I thought it was part of the show when it started falling but then people in the balcony(?) started screaming. I'm guessing they were covered... then an announcement came on. Thought it was pretty funny =)

re: The Sound of Music

I'm sure the decisions for keeping a show open or not are surely based on solid financial or practical reasons.

re: The Sound of Music

Oh, so that's what happened. Thanks for clearing it up. My friend and I were under the balcony so we couldn't see. All we saw was this little girl pointing and laughing on the side balcony which we then figured that it wasn't part of the show. Yeah, it was pretty funny but my friend and I were glad we were there to see this, lol. But I'm a bit confused though. Did the same thing happen on Sunday 'cause we went yesterday (Wednesday)?

It happens every now and then.

re: The Sound of Music

actually it doesnt happen every now and then.. it has only happened twice the whole run, and both times this week, they have worked on it and it was fine last nite.

re: The Sound of Music

The show will be extended by one week. Go see it by January 10th!
#39

re: The Sound of Music

AND... all seats are $50 and $30! So everyone can afford to see it.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

re: The Sound of Music

The prices are great, I'm definitely going to see this before it closes. Is Janna on inside of Elicia on Saturdays only still?

re: The Sound of Music

I assume you meant "Is Janna on INSTEAD of Elicia" but when I read
Is Janna on inside of Elicia on Saturdays I couldn't stop laughing!

Oops, glad I could provide a chuckle! Yes, that's what I meant. Does anyone know? I'm trying to get tickets asap and want to see Elicia.

re: The Sound of Music

Expect another extension!
#44

re: The Sound of Music

Tag, I doubt there will be another extension. I have a friend who is in the show, and they have known about this extension for a long time. There is no way the show will extend longer. Plus, Rain is going to be at the POW at the end of February, so they can't extend it much further.

re: The Sound of Music

A second extra week will be added on.

re: The Sound of Music

Any word on an extension?

re: The Sound of Music

I have just spoken to someone who works for Mirvish, and he said SOM is getting extended again, and the announcement to the public will be tomorrow (Monday).
#48

re: The Sound of Music

I didn't see the announcement. Did they make it today?
#49

re: The Sound of Music

Apparently there won't be another extension as everyone was hoping for. Last show is this Sunday.

Looks like final performance on the 10th!
