I went this past week and really loved the piece!
It kept me engaged and I walked out of there loving it
I thought it was really well written

Posted: 10/10/11 at 9:41amI went on October 1 and ended up enjoying it much more than I was expecting. The cast was excellent and I've been thinking about the piece a lot ever since I got out. I almost went to see it again this past weekend, but couldn't swing the $65.

Have there been any rumors of a Broadway transfer for this?
I really want to see it, but it closes next weekend, and I might not be able to make it there.

I haven't seen or heard a word about a transfer, but I can't imagine it would play very well in a bigger house. Despite the hot button topics, it feels like a small play that works best in an intimate space. MCC also doesn't have the best track record with transfers as of late (REASONS TO BE PRETTY and FROZEN both flopped).
Also, it would be a pity to transfer the play without Rutina Wesley, who really gives her character a lot of spark that is missing in the writing. I believe she goes into production for TRUE BLOOD very shortly after the run ends. I assume Groff has other things lined up as well.

I've heard nothing but wonderful things about Rutina and the TB fan in me is kicking myself for not finding out about this sooner. And yeah, the $65 didn't fit in my budget this month. I'm hoping maybe it comes back or transfers with her in mind for a future run sometime.

I saw the show this evening, and it's definitely worth seeing if you have the chance. I LOVE Rutina in True Blood, but I felt she was a little inconsistent in this. It may be my fault for going in with only ever having seen Rutina in True Blood and so maybe "Tara" was in my mind - I guess at first I didnt know who she was supposed to be personality-wise, everyone else was more "natural" I suppose.
She certainly has some explosive moments later on in the play that are just incredible to watch, but I couldnt connect with her in her first handful of scenes.
I had never seen Jon Groff in anything, but my is he a spitter when he speaks. Poor Rutina who got sprays of it in their face-to-face scenes.
The story was quite good, though a little too drawn out in the final scenes. I felt it could've been cut short or fleshed out a bit more as it just felt like what started off as a great scene was reduced to name-calling, lots of name-calling. What I really enjoyed was the music in between each scene that was both pulsating and melodic - nice touch.
