I would expect this board to take racism like this more seriously. I don't know where you live, but you must not have very many friends of color because you're so far out of touch that it's ridiculous. You don't know sh*t about what you're talking about. It's rude, disrespectful, and frankly, revolting to me that you feel the need to "correct" me on this matter. I'm happy that this got brought up to once again bring to light just how horrifying racism can be in this world. You're not discussing, you're "correcting." I love serious shows about real problems and life, but Miss Saigon is nothing more than a melodrama that preys on Western audience's sentimentality towards the Asian culture. Miss Saigon is about as truthful and authentic as Orange Chicken. And yes, I will bring up the old casting because Pryce was cast by the people that concieved the show, which goes to show that in Saigon's conception, the creators had such little respect for Asian culture that they cast a white man in yellow face to sing lines like "greasy chinks."
Once again, I appreciate that this revival cast actual Asian actors (who are phenomenal btw), but the show is still pretty appalling for a number of reasons. Yes after this revival, this show should be retired to the shelf for a good long while.

It's not exactly a show about sunshine and roses is it? But in spite of that, she still sings about her dreams and remains positive. It's almost as if the character is human.

You can't just call people racist because they think in human. That's a weak move of you to get your way in a discussion. I have many friends of color, which I spoke about in earlier discussions.
There is nothing appalling in the show that did not happen in real life.

I'm all about nuanced thinking. That's how I view this show too.
Don't listen to those blocking ostriches.

Great. So you turn out to be characterless. Pity.
I hope someday you realize that you can not decide for shows what they choose to be about. And that you can not silence any creator, actor or discussion partner. I also hope that you learn to understand that certain storylines in certain works of art, based on real life or fictional, may not feel comfortable to you and be ok with that. Because that is what art and life is about.

I'm Asian and I loved it when I saw it... although some parts were definitely questionable most of it wasn't offensive, at least not to me.
