I had NO idea there was a tour of the Wedding Singer in the UK. Interesting to see completely different staging... and lack of the Flashdance reference.

However--their Holly can SING.

Check out the video.

I knew. (Being in the UK helps these things. re: The Wedding Singer UK Tour... who knew? ) It was meant to be a pre-West End tour but still no sign of a West End debut. There was an ad for it on the back of my 'Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)' programme. I didn't like the promotion in the UK; on Broadway, it looked like "a musical that happens to be based on a film!" whereas something about the colours and ads over here made it look like "stuff 'Dirty Dancing'! Bring your hen night to see THIS show!". Yucky. XP

I saw it in Cardiff as my first experience of the show and fell in love!!! Everything about this show was great, sets, costumes, cast (especially), music, book, choreography, all brilliant! It's annoying that it won't be making the transfer to London anytime soon, but didn't someone (I think it was SADM2) say that its planning another tour for next year, and will transfer to the West End if there are any houses? I sure hope so, we deserve a show like th Wedding Singer :)

I don't care for the UK leads but Jodie Jacobs is a great Holly...she was an Eva alternate in the recent Evita UK revival and she was great in that as well.

I saw the tour twice and LOVED every moment of it.
I never saw the broadway version, what is the flashdance reference?

In Saturday Night in the City, Holly pulls a string that releases a lot of water on her body--like the iconic scene in Flashdance.

I do miss the Flashdance reference too. But there looks to be some added 80s elements that were not in the Broadway show, which is nice to see. (Hair-dos, dances, etc.) And that Holly is amazing!

"who knew?"

errrr - just about everyone who looks at the West End board - 'tis but a click away. I'm not wanting to sound snarky but there have been plenty of threads about it.

I think the show itself was a gem although some of the cast and staging left something to be desired. Having lived through the 80s I don't think the references were particularly good. I was told by some of the team that the intention is to take it into London with a different cast next year.

Yes, Holly can sing, but I'm not sure about other key members in the cast . . .

/Shameless plug.

This tour was great, was lucky to catch it more than once. The cast had to been seen live to appreciate them.
And Jodie, of course <3

She's currently playing Rusty in Footloose UK Tour, check her out in that if you get the chance re: The Wedding Singer UK Tour... who knew?

And I'd rather have that belt at the end of Saturday Night in the City, than have her lipsync whilst water is poured over her =P

We had the UK premier at out theatre and it was great to see it progress in to a very slick and fun show.

The cast were great (Jodie was brilliant) and the scaled down sets worked well.
The show was due to transfer to London but alas it never happened (most of the UK cast have moved on to Footloose now) but never fear as the show will tour again next year.

Interesting fact
The reason the water drop didn't happen in Saturday Night In The City was because Flashdance the musical also premiered this year (and is actually pretty good and far better than it has any right to be) and they do the water drop at the end of Act 1 and the producers didnt want the moment to be a let down with people seeing it in the Wedding Singer.

Oh and the tour clips and interviews are filmed at the theatre i work

Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
