I'm still a little flustered on this Melanie as Charity thing. I don't think her age is a problem, infact she may be more age appropiate for the role than Applegate was. Remember they're always complaining about being stuck at the Fandango for so long.
I don't think Gloria is a bad choice. It's a very interesting one.
But with Griffith it's obvious they would have to change the choreography for her. And Riedel is right how the hell would she get through the dancing of THERES GOTTA BE SOMETHING BETTER.. and the singing of WHERE AM I GOING?
I'd be thrilled if they could keep the show open to about March/April, almost making a year on Bway - but I hope they can do it with someone but Griffith.
Another thing is - this isn't a role where you can just throw in someone with no dance training. Most don't like to admit it but it's known FACT that Applegate has over 20 years of dance training, is Verdon dancing wise? No way. But she manages.

Well Riedel isn't always right, and nothing has been officially announced.
BUT it's VERY true that THE WEDDING SINGER really wants that theatre.

I think this is an awful choice. She seems much to old, she can't sing, nor dance. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
I want Marissa Tomei to take over the role. Or Jane Krakowski. (Both were attached to the project initally).

Posted: 10/19/05 at 3:51pmI don't think Krakowski would ever be involved with this again, for a couple of reasons. First, Neil Simon fired her after she complained about the script. Second, she's too big a star to be a replacement at this point. And third, she's busy with Guys and Dolls in London.

Good points, but I disagree with this comment:
"she's too big a star to be a replacement at this point."
Brooke Shields is a bigger star and she took over for Wonderful Town and now, Chicago (after its been running for nearly 9 years I believe)
Ben Vereen in Wicked?
Now, Liza Minnelli in Wicked?
and there are many more I just can't think of now.

I will believe the Liza rumor when I see that it's definite.
But, good points about Vereen and Shields.
Guys and Dolls aside, I don't think Simon would let her back after he rather publicly fired her.

How about the most deserving performer gets the role - Charlotte.
The choreography is made more advanced (if Cilento could handle such a daunting task), and new reviews come out - giving RAVES across the board to the amazing Charlotte d'Amboise.
Then I see her in the show, and absolutely fall head over heels AGAIN for her (becoming even more jealous of the Mann).
Yeah, that sounds about right.
______
But, oh, yeah. Small hitch - the Weisslers wouldn't know how to make a show good if Bob Fosse bit them on the ass.

And the show would close within a week...
Not trying to be a downer, but the show wouldn't last, particularly in the middle of the winter, without a star.
That's the reality of the situation.

I know.
But sometimes, just for kicks, I imagine things would go the way they should. And that, in my mind, Charlotte has more talent in her ronds de jambe than most "Hollywood-turned-Broadway actors" have in their whole faux tour de force.
