What a surprise -- I'm listening to it right now.
I'm a huge fan of the Broadway recording, but I've never heard the Off-Broadway version. This one is written in the style of the period, and brings you into the time of the show.
I love the cast. I'm a huge fan of Mandy, and thought he did an amazing job making the character menacing, sleazy, awful, and just a little bit sexy. His performance is love it or hate it, and I love it.
Tonya continues to blow me away; Black is a Moocher is one of the tracks I listen to most. I love the intensity she brings to every role. (See signature).
People on the boards are always talking about how great the cast of Lippa's version is: Murney, D'arcy James, Menzel, Diggs. No one mentions the stellar cast of this version.

That confounds me too. Many go on that Lippa's is superior cuz of the better known cast...
SAY WHAT?
To most "average" people the Broadway was much more star powered. Toni Collette, Mandy Patinkin and Eartha Kitt are names nontheatre people would still recognize. Throw in Tony aPerkins, Kudish....

Yup, that was a glorious cast. Collette was sensational -- even if she did loathe and despise Patinkin. (It was big news at the time, he apparently spit in her face during a performance and she didn't handle it well. Can't say as I blame her. Riedel had a field day in the Post with those two.)
