Ohh and there's a litle diddy she sings that isn't on the recording because it's like 12 measures. But it's soooo awesome here:

Everyone has their secrets
who we are is what we ain't
Change your name and put that mask on
Then you just pretend till you run outta paint.

That is quality lyric writing.

I think the statement I typed out above is a profound statement. It might be short but it's pretty dense and important

there's a few things here and there that aren't really long enough to be recording. I think they wanted to make sure that they got a good representation of the show. I mean they only get 80 mins per disc. You also have to have a continuity of story. Some songs take place in the middle of a scene and don't always make sense. I think it's important for a recording like Wild Party to keep the continuity flowing.

I have read the poem in full and have performed in Lippa's Wild Party as Mae...soo my vote goes to Lippa's version. The other version didn't catch my attention and I was easily bored.

I might also be biased...but..my vote goes for Lippa.
"He makes me toot!" - Mae in THE WILD PARTY :)

I did the ill-fated production of anyone Can whistle in Philly with her. We rehearsed for like a week and a half or something crazy like that. She was Cora and had soooooo many lines and songs and stuff but she was being a trooper about it. I think the director came up to her and said after LaChiusa this must be a walk in the park. That's how we started talking about it. It wasn't long though it was during break. She mentioned the harmonies are crazy (I personally live for that complex harmony sound) but it was such a rewarding experience for her. She had some great songs she wanted to keep but knew why they were taken out. It's funny, she said there wasn't this animosity between the 2 diff versions of the shows. That was something created by theatregoers and the press.
