Both versions use lines from the book, most notably in the opening number.

la's has much more of the source material than li's. i think the poem was absolutely perfect for musicalization. it was about a clown and a vaudeville chick in the 20's throwing a party with their "artistic" friends. the score of la's fits seemlessy into the story. i think it's one of the best examples of the synthesis of book material and musicalization i've ever seen. i'm tempted to say the best.

well they've never had any adomosity (sp) between them. They're both sweet and generous human beings. I know the new composers are actually supporters of each other and a lot are fans of each other.
