Nope, you're still off the mark. It's telling the story in a different way, with a different style. There's no satire or parody involved, just a lot of fun and one kick-#$@ score.

I have an idea. Why don't we create a verison of the Wiz that is told through the eyes of the Wicked Witch (Like Wicked) that way neither play will lose money. We can call it "The Wizicked".

But it would be a hoot to have Stephanie Mills playing Evilene. What a Broadway return... :)
Love it! It's like Carol Burnett playing the Queen in the new MATTRESS movie they're making.

THE WIZ!!! Ahhh I love The Wiz. I did it in my junior year of high school and its my favorite show out of all the ones I've done. Wow I can't wait.
I hope someday the Arlen/Harburg RSC version of THE WIZARD OF OZ gets to play a Broadway house. It's on my list of things to do if I ever become a Broadway producer. A mix between the original London version and the MSG version which had the witch sing the beginning of "The Jitterbug". That was genius. The costumes and sets for the original London stage version were very "WIZ" like, which is also an interesting way to approach it... Plus the score is so classically beautiful. The movie doesn't do the score justice. The London cast orchestrations are great. The cast just lacks a little....

Gah. Sorry, but no. The RSC added dialogue to fill the show out and, in the process, added scenes and lines that were embarrassingly bad, on par with those from a British Christmas panto. Putting the Jitterbug back in was wonderful, but the rest? Bleach.
Well, obviously if I or anyone were to mount a huge Broadway production the book would be revised. I know exactly which lines you're referring to and yes they are pretty bad, but some of it can be worked into the script and some lines need to be removed entirely. I just felt that the Madison Square Garden version removed too many of those lines and dumbed it down by removing the intermission and the Emerald City dance sequence and the beautiful Entr'Acte that had been written which was removed because the intermission was taken out. Basically what I'd like to do is mount an extended MSG version with some of the costumes and sets looking a lot like the London production. Is that better??? lol. It would have been nice if Tams-Witmark released the MSG script so we wouldn't have to put up with these amature RSC and even WORSE the MUNY version!!! *shudders* THAT version is awful... I have such good ideas for the design aspects of this musical. All graffiti and street culture inspired, which nowadays is colourful and fun as ever. Hah the lion on a pimp getup...
