What will happen to WICKED within this year-- stay a major hit, decrease in sales and still run, or close by the end of the year?

And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

I see absolutely no sign that its fortunes are going to change any time soon.

Are you kidding me? This show ain't going nowhere. Most likely, it will surpass Cats and Phantom, but the attendance are sold out, pretty much, every night. Even with Idina gone, the show is sold out till February. And soon they will be sold out till March, etc. Besides, they just made back all the money invested, so this show may just run forever. (Like Cats, only the "real" forever.)

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

What?! I tried to get tickets to a Feb. show in November, where the hell do people get these tickets?!

Most likely, it will surpass Cats

Though it will have a healthy run, I doubt it will be setting any records, if for no other reason but that it is at the Gershwin.

As much as I dislike WICKED, it's obvious that it's going to be around for a long time.

"it will likely surpass CATS and PHANTOM"

-I think that's a bit of a stretch - I don't think it will get THAT out of hand. I just can't see WICKED running for over 18 years.

Wicked will be one of those shows, like the previously mentioned Cats and Phantom, that has fantastic cross-over appeal. By that, I mean that it's not just musical theatre fans who will see this show. I still think it was a brilliant idea from a producers standpoint, based on the obsession of the world with The Wizard of Oz, to turn this into a musical at all. With the tour opening and widening its appeal, the Broadway production selling well even beyond Idina's departure (because, gasp, much as I love her there is more to Wicked than Idina!) and I'm sure subsequent London and other international productions will widen its scope and appeal for a long time to come.

Settle in for a long run, Wicked-ites. This show isn't going anywhere.

Wicked will definately last longer than you think... sure there are people that really only went to see idina, but there are many people devoted to the show and others that just want to see it performed... also, Jennifer Laura Thompson has been a great asset to the show and many believe that she's better than K.C...

I can see it running longer than 18 years. The show is timeless. It won't be dated, thanks to the WOO film. Look at Rent. No one thought it would be running this long, or even Les Miz. Truthfully, this show has more to offer than Cats or Phantom (even though I know those those of you who dislike this will agree with me, but, just so you know, the fan base for Wicked is much bigger than the ones who dislike the show.)

Personally, I'm excited to see what Stephanie J. Block and Kendra Kassebaum can do with the roles on tour. I'm willing to bet they'll both be amazing....and Carol Kane! Come on! That's fantastic!

I think it will do great because Shoshana is really amazing, and I'm sure that people will start treating her like they treated Idina. (the whole fan thing, not death threats)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but according to IBDB, the show that had the longest run at the Gershwin was Starlight Express with 761 performances.

(Annie ran for 2,377 performances, back when the Gershwin was the Uris Theatre, but only the final year of the run was at the Gerswhin, as the majority of its run (4 and a half years) was at the Alvin theatre)

The Gershwin is just too large and costs too much for shows to stay open for an enormous length of time.

While I do love Wicked, for some reason, I can't see it playing for so many years like Cats and Phantom of the Opera

Okay..listing the longest running Gershwin shows...how many of them have been sold out for a year and a half? I've been in NYC for 10 years, and this is the most succesful show at the Gershwin since I've been here. If worse comes to worse, they will downsize it Like B&B, but this show is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Just trying to give a different perspective than
OMG! I love WICKED!! It will NEVER close!!
or
WICKED is overblown and it sucks. It'll close by summer!!

Just to clarify, I'm not being delussional. I know shows that appeal to audiences (and we do have some unfortunate ones, as I have listed in the past), I also know shows that won't last, like Caroline or Change. As much as I loved that show, it did not appeal to everyone in a mixed sense. With Wicked, everytime I have seen that show, the audiences react in ways that are not typical of B'way shows (for instance, the curtain calls - I have never heard audiences as loud as these). I know that All Shook Up and Good Vibrations will not have long runs, and that Little Woman will probably be on for two years at the most. I also know that, as much as I hate to say it, The Producers will be running for a while, as well as (Urgh) Mamma Mia. I'll bet that in five years, Wicked will still be running strong.

hmm just to quickly change the subject for one second, I actually think Little Women will last long.
