The message of The Wizard of Oz

Forgive me for this thread, but a couple years ago, some very bright poster here wrote out an interpretation of the story that blew me away. I've been searching for it for an hour, but can't find it.
It was something along the lines of how we all leave home like Dorothy, have adventures that fundimentally change us, and we eventually long to go "home" to a simpler time, which is never possible because it is us that has changed. Therefore the real magical part of the story is not Oz, but the very end when Dorothy gets to do the thing we all long for, return home to her safe childhood.
I'm not doing it justice. Does anyone remember what thread that was in? Or could the person just re-explain it?
Thanks!

I don't remember that thread, but another interruption of the message of Oz (and this is actually Oprah's interpretation!) is that "you always had the power".

Right, yes, that's the more overt message, I guess. This other interpretation kind of turned the whole thing on it's ear.
I remember getting weepy reading it.

I hope this doesn’t come across as snarky or bitchy, but isn’t that the point of the story already? At least that’s what I took away from it and I’ve been a huge Oz fan my entire life.

the message of the wizard of oz is not to be a little brat, let your dog bite people, think that YOUR the one being victimized because your dog bit someone else, and then run away from home during a twister because you just don't understand why anyone would be upset that they got bit by your dog. Because the results might be sever brain trauma.

There's mild irony in your correcting his usage of "your" and not knowing how to spell grammar... just sayin'...
