Well, it wasn't a stage show recording but Madonna's "Don't Cry for me Argentina" bowed at #6 on the Billboard Pop Charts.
Also, I think Elton John's "Electricity" did well in the UK charts.

Did Electricity do well in the UK charts? I certainly never heard it in a club, but maybe I'm just sheltered. I sincerely hope it didn't do well, I think it's a horrible song.

Posted: 8/15/06 at 1:13pmSongs released as singles from muscials fare much better in the UK where they seem to always crack the Top 10 when a musical opens. I think Bombay Dreams had many British Pop hits.

Posted: 8/15/06 at 2:38pmThat strangely appealing techno dance version of "Easy As Life" by Deborah Cox did pretty well on the dance charts a couple of years ago. I highly doubt it ever made it anywhere near the top 40 though.

Posted: 8/15/06 at 6:28pmI think the Stefani song "Rich Girl" did very well on the charts. I also remember that the "video" for "All That Jazz" from "Chicago" did very well on VH-1 when the film was released.

Yeh, I think Boyzone's No Matter What was no.1, but I may be wrong.
Also, Big Brova's did a vesion of "My Favourite Things" which got high in UK charts.
Bombay Dreams had one chart hit in Shaka-Laka Baby, but most people hated it in the UK. And basically took the mickey a bit.

"Did One Night In Bangcock make the top 40?"
One Night in Bangkok hit Number 3 on the Billboard pop charts in 1985.
Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" hit #1.
Gwen Stefani's "If I Were a Rich Man" peaked at #3 on the pop charts as well.
