For me my votes would be for Fiddler, West Side Story, and Sweeney Todd.....Urinetown would certainly be right there as well.

I'd say anything from R&H....most ALW....Assassins is on my list too. And Once Upon a Mattress has a perfect fit, even though it's not that powerful.

But I'm not voting for Wicked. Updated On: 8/12/04 at 04:33 PM

As much as I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Wicked, it does not have the most seamless book and score ever. Although they work very well together.

I was joking about Wicked. It is far from the most seemless book/score.

As I said, they do work very well together but they are NOT the most seamless. I wish other Wicked fans would admit this....

Les Miserables was the first thing to come to mind. But thinking back on it now, I think it ties with Fiddler. After seeing that on Broadway last week, I was so touched...I don't think there has ever been a more seamless book. The score is wonderful, too. But Les Mis has just as good a book as a score, which makes these two musicals the top of my list.

Almsot any Sondheim show, mainly INTO THE WOODS, COMPANY, SWEENEY TODD, and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC come to mind. Others are GYPSY, WEST SIDE STORY, LES MIS, RENT, MY FAIR LADY, and URINETOWN. sry, but i don't think rodgers and hammerstein should be at the top of the list for a seamless book and score.

My adoration of Sondheim knows no bounds, and I love Company, but that musical is not a good example of a seamless book-score integration. On the contrary, the integration is very poor. But it's intentional, and works on its own terms- that's why it's a concept musical as opposed to a book musical.

That's why i think it's seamless. it doesn't keep the show moving, but it does tell us about the relationships between each character and what they're like, or would like us to think they are. It may not be traditionally seamless, but it is exactly how the creators wanted it to be, and since they were dead on with what they wanted i put it on my list.

That doesn't make sense. Either the songs are a seamless part of the plot or they're not. The people in Company don't sing fluffy songs that are all sparkle and no meaning, but there is no plot, really, to advance with the songs.
