and original plans were to take it to Broadway after the tour. I think Raul was great as Che!

I love Idina. She is brilliant has such a great voice. Unlike Patti Lupone she can make her voice soft and pretty. Patti Lupone's voice is a little more pushy. I think Idina would bring a new edge to Evita Peron

How bout Patti (and others as multiple Evas...Julia Murney, Idina, Bette) in a concert version for the Actors Fund... such as Dreamgirls, Funny Girl. and Chess???

WOW! I got the Broadway Treasures DVD for Christmas, and I when I sat down to watch it the other night, I was AMAZED by LuPone's singing in the Evita number. I'm not too familiar with her, but when I heard her belt out those notes, I was very very very impressed. I made all my friends who came over watch her sing. Her mouth was so huge as she sang and she was just...wow.
And no, I don't think Idina would be a very good Evita.

Marla Schaffel played Eva during a national tour, so yes, she can handle the role. And I think she'd be fantastic too :)

Lupone is amazing, isn't she JoizeyActor
I'm hoping that an Evita revival is around the corner, but, Idina definitly would not make the best Eva. Granted she has incredible vocal power, but I'm not convinced that she could handle the role (acting wise) or that her vocal style is right either. And let me note that I'm a big Idina fan! I think that Alice Ripley and Felicia Finley may be better suited...now to just get Raul Esparza back as Che

Kerry Butler? Wow, I think I'm going have to disagree - Kerry is good in her own right, but I don't think she has the vocal power (even though she does have a good belt) but more importantly she doesn't have the stage presence/comand to play Eva

i agree that she probably wouldn't make the best eva...but i so think that she has more of the vocal range than idina.

I can't really say if Kerry or Idina has the wider range - maybe she does, maybe she doesn't - but in an earlier thread somebody commented on Idina as having "chords of steel" or something to that effect, and thats certainly the truth - but none the less she likely wouldn't make the best Eva either

I second Alice... I think she's the perfect age and right type and her voice is well suited for the role.

idina has the better vocal range. Kerry Butler can't even handle Audrey, how the hell can she handle Eva Peron? o, and i didn't even consider alice ripley. i agree on her too.

the natioanl tour from the last 1990's was billed as a revival and was indeed intended to bring the show back to broadway.
hey..here's an original idea. instead of reviving a show, let's write and produce a new one.

Go Dude Go!
The last thing Broadway needs is a revival of EVITA.
Patti is great and so is the original EVITA, Elaine Paige. I understand Felicia is marvelous and so is Marla.
If you want to see & hear EVITA buy/rent the vid or the cd, or catch a touring version. Otherwise let's keep EVITA where she belongs--out of New York City.
Yours for a better Broadway.

Why is it so bad to have an Evita revival? It's a good show, and a great star vehicle. It's no worse than Funny Girl Broadway Bulldog.

Well, if ALW can bring back Marti Webb - the original star of Tell Me On A Sunday - to star in the revival in London, he may bring back Elaine Paige - the original and definitive stage Evita - to star in an Evita revival. (j/k)

I def. think Idina could do it, but not until she finishes Wicked, as for Kerry Butler, i dont think she has the stage presence to do it, as for a new face i think that would be a good idea

Yes to Idina. AND ACTUALLY Kristen Would be great too, b/c of her range. No WAY kerry, she looks 10 years old. I love her but no way. What about Julia Murney? She has an AMAZING BELT and range, and physically she'd work!!I'd say it'd be great between any of those 3.
Il n' y a pas d'amour heureux.

Kristen can't belt that high. She can go into her operatic range for some of the songs. And I don't think that type of voice would work. You need someone who can really BELT and PUSH to get the notes where they need to be. I think Idina wold be great.
