^ That would be a horrible idea.
John Goodman would make an incredible Mary!

Stephanie Block may be able to hit a high F, but playing Mary Poppins requires a lot of singing above that note, most notably the C above it at the end of "Brimestone and Treacle".
As for celebrities playing the part, the vocal range of the role makes stunt casting very difficult as it requires a competent soprano, not to mention a good dance training.

Mary Poppins is a role that should never (and never needs to) be stunt-casted anyway. The role is bigger than a celebrity.

Maybe they will promote the current standby.
candydog2 - I think it's quite possible that the poster meant the F above high C, rather than the 5th below high C. That lower F isn't even really that impressive sung in head voice. On the other hand, SJB singing a high F...wow. I want to hear it.

I'm hoping Catherine Walker is promoted to full-time Mary Poppins...she's paid her dues to the company fantastically for nearly three years, and is very deserving to take on the role.
Yes, I thought Catherine was just as good as Ashley Brown, if not better.

I wonder if it might be Laura Michelle Kelly flying over the roof tops of London once again...Anything can happen if you let it!!
I don't know abouot Catherine Walker but I am really not keen on Ashley Brown as Mary Poppins her british accent is terrible, but I hope that Broadway has enjoyed Scarlett's Mary.

It is Laura Michelle Kelly - she's taking over for Scarlett when she leaves mid-October.
After her performance on the Tony Awards last year the next Mary should be Whoopi Goldberg!
I highly doubt that Laura Michelle Kelly would return to the role - however if she did I will be flying over to New York with the sole purpose to see her incredible performance again ... utter perfection.
"John Goodman would make an incredible Mary!"
Or I hear Harvey Fierstein would also be amazing. I could hear it now.

How do you know?
Cameron Mackintosh must've given in. Her tiff with Cameron Mackintosh is the reason she didn't originate the role on Broadway
I'd like to see Whoopi Goldberg's take on Mary. Her brief performance at the Tony Awards was headed in the right direction.

People who I thought of after hearing the clue:
Richard H. Blake and Kevin Kern.
They were both in Wicked very recently (and Blake was also in Legally Blonde).

jess-I am so happy now, thank you!!
Kern and Blake are both still in Wicked. Kern is on Broadway, Blake is on tour.
If this is true, I guess I'm seeing Mary Poppins again. I just hope that "Temper, Temper" will still be in the show.
When the cast changes in October, with or without LMK, all the changes that were implemented for the US tour, including some different dialogue as well as Playing The Game, will be put into the Broadway production.

I would like to see Tony Mansker take on the role of Bert full time he was fantastic in the role when I saw the show. as for the changes I hope the don't happen the broadway production should stay grander and seperate from the national tour.

It will still be "grander" in terms of the scenic design. They're not importing the tour set. The changes are all internal, the most obvious of which is the swapping out of Temper Temper for Playing the Game.
