The Graduate came out. According to IBDB, it opened on Apr 4, 2002 and closed on Mar 2, 2003.

I always thought THE GRADUATE was a play first, but I haven't done my research before posting, so I'll totally admit if I'm wrong.

It was definitely a movie before it was anything.

The novel came first, then the movie, then (years later) the play.
