I may mangle a few words...
"...Desi, Desi that is, she was a left-wing love machine. She was uptight, out of sight, workers of the world unite..."
Because your Mothers love might feel insane, But she really knows everything.
Why that line means so much to me. Cause I can relate to youths pain. I was 18 just graduated from HS and moved to the West Coast. My mom called and asked me to return. Not knowing my mother kept alot of things to herself. I returned to Boston, and a month later she passed away. But I did have that chance to say good-bye. She was the most wonderful mother I could have asked for. Still wishing I could have spent more time with her. That's why I related so much to this show. joe

HETEROSEXUAL LOVE LACKS DRAMA.
(It's all in the delivery.)
Seriously though - does anyone have that whole part about 'grasping music's math' or whatever that was?
What does this mean to you? Both to be seen and to be seen through.
wow joe5, you must have been blown away when you saw PS. Thanks for sharing that.
Rebecca Naomi Jones singing "Come Down Now" just gives me the chills.
Me too, Foster. Chills.
and like a catchy refrain that gets trapped in your head...
"And then something strange happened, something thats never happened in this church before."
"I think I'm having a religious experience."
"All you have to do is ask me, I'll give you all the love life allows"
Just want to echo that Rebecca Jones singing Come Down Now was phenomenal. (I also like the "to be seen and to be seen through" line from that song, too -- kind of what love is all about, isn't it?)
My best PASSING STRANGE memory occurred at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre when the musical made its world premiere in 2005.
A scene/song later cut from the production, in Act 2, in a celebratory explosion of meeting the artists of Berlin, members of the cast come out into the audience and chat/sing.
I had an aisle seat, and Rebecca Naomi Jones skipped over, plopped herself infront of me and asked me repeatedly something along the lines of her body image as a woman. Her wild eyes and frizzy hair were so enchanting... and I carried that experience with me to when I finally interviewed the entire cast in Fall 2007.
clever name, I was blown away and sobbing mess at the same time.
Did get a chance to talk to Rebecca this past weekend. She said she hopes to record "Come Down Now" on her album. But did say it was much longer at Berkley. And will record that version.
If you want to deal with "le real," you have to go to a foreign country.
I'm talking Stockholm baby
Rome
Brother said Algeria, see ya wouldn't wanna be ya.
Don't be sad about your chosen path and where it's taken you thus far cause this is what you did and that is who you are and it's all right...yes it's all right
I haven't seen the show, but I own the cast album.
Favorite Moment: "Love Like That," right after Stew sings "Too bad it takes so long to see what you've been missing-"
And then Heidi cuts in with the refrain. A wonderful choice, to have the woman sing in a song about a dead mother. I get choked up every time.
"The only way to become your true self is to create your true self. You turn your life into a work of art."
Because I live in chicago I never got to see it but have been listening to the cd repeatedly and bought a t shirt. I love the score and cant wait for the spike lee film. My favorite line is "Ill grow bolder, Ill Grow Colder, Ill Grow Older and Keep filling my cup Ill Grow Bolder, Ill Grow Colder Ill Grow Older but Ill never grow up"
Am I real now?
Can I feel now?
thetinymagic2, isn't the line:
"Ideas are dependable, there's a new one every week..
Emotions are expendable, because they aren't unique"
I believe you're right, Winter sky.
I can't wait to tour the country.

Knows what it's like...
To hustle for dimes
On the mean streets of...
