The wonder that is Jack Black...#0

As I sat watching the entertaining "School of Rock', which by the way might as well be a musical as Jack Black sings every three minutes, I was yet again blown away by the energy and utter joy that is Jack Black...
As I watched him interact with the children in the film...a thought crossed my head:
HAROLD HILL!
I don't think there is a performer in Film, TV or yes, Broadway, who could do T_R_O_U_B_L_E in the way Mr. Black could.
Now THAT would be a Music Man for the ages!

If people out there HAVE to take movies off the screen and put them on the legit stage, take School of Rock, please. (I shall endeavor to avoid the cliche that it will bring in a whole new audience who will become Broadway lovers and of Millie in particular). Black hosted Saturday Night Live and sang every three minutes on that, too. His monologue was one of their great musical bits with him walking through the studio and backstage area, and he did a particularly great song about the Do Not Call list. He had a pleasant singing voice.
Hey, Broadway, DO call Jack Black.

I think Broadway is too late. I've a hunch SCHOOL OF ROCK will be a mega-smash-hit, probably with a sequel in the works as I type.

Posted: 10/6/03 at 11:18amWhile it is nice to see people wanting to bring in new acting talent on Broadway I'd still rather people were hoping to see these people in new works, rather than seeing which old war horse they might be able to sell for six months.

Jon, I think you are pulling our collective legs !:)
Gavin Creel & Joe Machota are Broadway's two favorite twinkies.
They should travel together while wrapped in cellophane.
I'm actually very dissapointed and surprised they haven't yet appeared on nifty.org. If Babe Ruth and Phil Rizzuto can make the 'celebrity' section, anything is possible.

As you all know, I abhor movies, therefore I avoid them like the plague.
However, after seeing Eric McCormack as Harold Hill three yeara ago, I think he is now the definitive Music Man. He was splendid in the role.

re: re: The wonder that is Jack Black...#12

Posted: 10/6/03 at 8:03pmHis performance on SNL was so amazing, his pure joy at performing and that manic glee, that's what I wanna see in anything on Broadway!

Posted: 10/6/03 at 8:38pmCertainly Jack Black and Marc Shaiman and the South Park boys are all of a similar sensibility. The could come up with something totally new.

I think Jack Black would be amazing in some roles.
Eddie/ Dr. Scott in RHS
Voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors
Judas in JCS (I've heard him sing HOTM...very good)
And I can picture him in the Producers, maybe?
