Any guesses?
I'm suspecting Nederlander as that is primarily who Disney does business with so that's Palace, Lunt-Fortunne, Brooks Atkinson, Minksoff, Neil Simon, Marquis, Richard Rodgers, Nederlander, Gershwin.
Is this show have an out-of-town tryout?
Don't you mean, "Disney Presents Tarzan"? That is the correct name of the show.
LOL.
The rumor was Lion King was moving to another theater and Tarzan would take the New Amsterdam but who knows.
I would think the Marquis.. Since La Cage is closed

Woman in White already has the Marquis.
I'm betting a big theater - maybe grab the Minskoff? Disney would be dumb to move the Lion King. They sell out the New Amsterdam every night. Moving to a different (presumably smaller) theater would just make them lose money.

If Fiddler closes soon, I would grab the Minskoff. Also, how about the Broadway?
Depending on what happens with the BROADWAY, I would guess Tarzan would go to either the MINSKOFF or the BROADWAY...the other housing THE COLOR PURPLE...then again, the Barrymore is now open too - Barefoot?!?!

moving Lion King wouldnt have to mean a downsizing, there are other comparable houses.
On a separate thought line, I think since they expect the cast to do a lot of vine climbing and swinging and such, theyll be looking for a theater that can easily accomodate these effects they want. I dont know enough about the theaters to say if any of them have an advantage in that regard.

is it DEFINITE that Tarzan is going to be a musical? it better not suck.

i think the Gershwin would be the best theatre for this, however it doesnt appear that wicked will be going anywhere anytime soon (which i cant say is a bad thing :))

i would think they'll go for the minskoff once fiddler closes
They'll probably make a bid for the Minskoff, but it's too early to tell. It depends on when FIDDLER closes. Say Fiddler closes by the end of the summer...the theatre owner isn't going to want to keep the theatre empty until Spring of 2006.
Remember, MARY POPPINS is also trying to book a Broadway house...I think the Minskoff would be perfect for it. So we'll just have to wait and see.
Mary Poppins isn't coming until Fall 2006. That's a long way off. It could easily play the Hilton or the Imperial which both could be free by then.
I'll third or forth or fifth the idea of the MINSKOFF. The show is presumably pretty elaborate from the designs, and that's one of the few theatres that could ever house it.
Do you think they would close BEAUTY & THE BEAST?
If they do this, DISNEY PRESENTS TARZAN could have the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. But would they close the show? It's been as low as 50%ish but has recently stayed in the 80-90%ish range.
Been on Broadway for ten years...
I'm all for a good show. Just think it'll be amazing that Disney has Lion King, Tarzan, Beauty & the Beast, Mary Poppins, and Little Mermaid all up at the same time.
BEAUTY made $750.000 last week, it ain't going antwhere and the Lunt is not treally a Top house.
But look at ALL SHOOK UP's numbers, that Theatre will be available soon and Disney has a good relationship with the Nederlanders.
so that's also a possibility

I think All Shook Up will be at the Palace for some time. However, I don't think moving the Lion King would kill its business. Look at Beauty and the Beast, they moved it and its still running and doing fine. I'm pretty sure Disney's made back its money on the Lion King so even if they do move it, everythings profit and profit is profit.
I actually don't think Disney will try to run THE LION KING, BEAUTY, MARY POPPINS, TARZAN and THE LITTLE MERMAID simultaneously on Broadway. Money or not, they've become more conscious of the whole "Disneyfication of Broadway" negative buzz.
I think by the time MARY opens in September 2006, they'll have at least closed BEAUTY, even if it's still running at 80 percent.
I agree. Broadway is not a Disney theme park. They won't have five shows open at once.
Just imagine is ON THE RECORD came. Disney had planned for ON THE RECORD to come too, but the tour failed. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING HERE! Why would they even PLAN on bringing the show to Broadway? I smelled flop from the start.
AIDA should still be on Boradway - not BEAUTY & the BEAST.
I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up doing MERMAID in London or moved LION KING to Vegas or something funky like that. I frankly find it rather interesting that both MERMAID and TARZAN have been pushed onto the fast track after staying in tepid development for the last couple of years.
I don't think Disney is trying to pull a WAR OF THE WORLDS domination over Broadway, so they may have something else up their sleeve we don't know about yet.
You know what would be exciting? If they built a Performing Arts Center in Walt Disney World. They could move one of their Broadway shows there.
Call it the "Walt Disney Performing Arts Center." Maybe even make it an extension off of Downtown Disney. Host cultural festivals there. Host world premieres of Disney films.
why not just move all shook up to something smaller and use Palace, is all shook up really going to be around that long?

The Minskoff or Bway would be great for this show, the Palace i would think would be the forerunner. I dont see All Shook up being around alot longer. If the person who posted about building a performing arts center at WDW was serious, it would be a really, really bad plan. Tourists are there for mickey and the whole theme park experience, not to sit down to a 2 1/2 hour show after a long sweaty day at the theme parks. Disney has enough problems with Cirque filling La Nouba the Cirque du Soliel's show at Downtown Disney. Maybe if Cirque ever leaves the area they could put in a reduced shorter show that could entertain the masses, but not a full lengnth BATB or TLK or Tarzan run. Also entertainment does not have the biggest budget at WDW (I know i was in entertainment for 5 years) and if wdw was to run it as opposed to Disney Theatricals, the shows would certinly suffer from lack of $$. There wouldnt be enough people who wanted to sit there to make it finanically viable. And if The Lion King moves from the New Amsterdam, lets hope that the set doesnt suffer like when "Beauty and the Beast" became "Beautys been decreased" at the Lunt-Fontaine. The show took huge set cuts and quality decreased (in my opinion) and was not up to the usualy Disney Theatrical high standards. Phew! I talked alot. It will be interesting to see how Tarzan pans out.
HUH? I thought La Nouba in Downtown Disney was sold out months in advance - and has been since it opened?
I don't know about others, but I plan on spending an enitre day in Downtown Disney shopping, then having dinner there to relax, and I always end my day seeing La Nouba.
A Performing Arts Center there would become an attraction in itself. Those going to parks spend the entire day there - they don't do anything else. Theme parks wouldn't impact attendance in seeing a show.
IF La Nouba DOES have problems selling seats, it's because its a Cirque du Soliel show. The movie theatre there certainly doesn't have ANY troubles.
And if a DISNEY show were to be there, that would sell.
Tarzan is more than likley going to The Palace
The Color Purple could go to The Plymouth or Broadway
Princesses could go into The Al Hircchfield Spring 06
Beuaty and the Beast will close when Little Mermaid readies for a bow, theres no way Disney will have 5 productions running and it wouldn't suprise me if Lion King close either, 3 Disney shows is more than enough! Plus is B&B closes Little MErmaid could grab that theatre easily.
Mary Poppins will need a bigish theatre, it could go into Nederlander as Chicago could close around the end of Autumn 2006 but anything could happen by then!
Quite alot of venues are avilable
